ok so i've decided to build a new pc, cuse the one i have is too old.. I almost have all the parts, i alrdy have the procesor, graphics card, computer case, os XP, all i need now is the hard drive and cd rom. can anybody tell me wich one goes first, and then next and then and then... heh heh i know very litle about this stuff so ima need a litle help pls...anyone _________________ You go Bye Bye... |

Woot, this is a fairly easy question!!!
You have 3 options that you can consider if your dealing with two ATA devices and I will touch on all 3.
First you could connect both devices to the same interface on the motherboard and configure the jumpers on each device for cable select. That can often be the easiest way out.
Next, you could have both devices on the same interface and configure the hard drive for master and the CD Rom for slave, thats also something thats fairly commonly done.
Last, and I prefer to do this myself is to hook the hard drive to one interface on the motherboard, and the cd rom drive to the other interface on the motherboard, configure both for either cable select or master and then your good to go that way.

as long as you dont turn on the computer while you're installing them, you can install them both at the same time, and you should do that.

man...i remember when i starting peiceing my box together..ahhh...memories lol.
