DOD crashing since DOD:S released.

Hey guys, ever since DOD:S released, I havnt been able to play Reg DOD. I'll start it, it'll get to the menu screen, and then it will crash right before the actual menu items pop up (i.e. options, find server, etc..). It crashes right back to the desktop every time. Things i've tried:

-deleting and then reinstalling DOD, even redownloading it.
-changing my DX back to DX 90 in DOD:S
-rolling back my Video card drivers
-installing the newest drivers
-updating my sound drivers
-updating my mobo drivers
-rolling back all of the above lol
-visited the steam forums, and no one else seems to have this problem, i couldnt find it anywhere on teh support page

Well...if anyone know's what to do, or maybe i missed something, or done something i sohouldnt have., let me know. thanx ahead of time.

What OS are you running? There is a bug that is supposed to be fixed today sometime with 98/ME

I'm running XP home, and NO, i do not get any error message of any kind, just a straight up crash, like DOD doesnt even exist. straight from menu with no menu options to the desktop.

oh, and i just tried something, this happens to ALL HL 1 engine games, i.e. HAlf Life, DOD, CS 1.6, Zombie Panic, Brain Bread, Blue shift, Opposing Force...every single one of em. I cant play any of em, same exact crash.

Sounds like the dll error have you got the new update that came out today ? If not restart STEAM and see if it fixes the issue. Another thing to try is delete the clientregistry.blob file

no i didnt think to. this is happening not to just dod, but every half life 1 game, basically everything but source games.

in the play games menu, right click dod and then delete local game content.
reinstall dod and see if it works now.

if that doesn't work, delete steam complety and reinstall everything.

well first scan for spyware in ur folder or even on ur computer i had somethin like that before and i had to get rid of something i may of downloaded or sumthin that jsut got in there but now mines fine and also u might wanna delete dll file and then download it again!!
