If money was no object, what would you get in your ultimate gaming machine?

And if money was some what of a limit, not to exceed... oh, say $2,500 total, what would you get?

I would go with what I have now, with the exception of a DVD burner inplace of my CD rom

Here is what I have and my logic

Intel P4 3.0 GHZ - I know most people would say get the AMD 64 bit cpu, but what is the point, only a few version of linux can actually use it as a 64 bit, otherwise it just runs as 32 bit like everother processor

2 GB DDR400 Corshair memory dual channel - what truely makes a computer fast

WD SATA 200 GB Hard drive and 2 WD IDE Hard drives. I do most of my gaming using the SATA hard drive, and my webdesign and music projects on my IDE hard drives. though in the end the connection speed does not really matter since I have the 2 GB of memory

BFG Nvidia Geforce 6800 GT OC - hell of a video card, and while it may not be one of the new PCI extremes, I am still waiting to see how they play out and what happens with AGP

SoundBlaster Audigy 4 ZS - I love this card, I can record full digital from my synth workstation.

The only thing I see that you might want to change is the motherboard as it is limited to the amount of upgrades in the future. You probably pay the extra $50.00 or that would give you SLI, Nforce4 chipset, and few other features that will allow you many upgrades in the future.

The mouse not sure if you just want wireless, but I would reccoment either a Logitech mx 518 around $40.00,Logitech G5 laser around $60.00 or if you go wireless the MX 1000 around $55.00 or MX 900 around $80.00

Mainly when you build a system you want to be able to upgrade when you want to without having to buy everything brand new again. If you spend $100.00-$200.00 in the beging it will save $700.00-$1000.00 in the end.

With a higher end motherboard it will allow you to run 2-video cards and also upgrade as far as the dual core CPU or the FX series . It all depends on your budget. What I did instead of downgrading to a lessor MB I bought everything I could with my budget then saved what I needed to get the rest which took me about 3 weeks, because I knew I had a monster computer waiting to be put together and all I needed was one part to finsh it. As you can guess it gave me good incentive to save my money...lol

2 things you don't want to scimp on is your MB and Memory they are the sole of your system. The processor is going to do it's job, but if you add quality memory and MB you just made it's job 100x easier
