I had no idea that close to 2.5 people a year are getting killed by birds.

Or should I say I had no idea that people were hunting birds with jets!

Technically speaking, it is most likely not the bird that is the immediate cause of death...

...more likely it is the sudden negative acceleration upon impact with the ground, do to some mechanical failure of the aircraft imparted by collision with another airborne object (i.e. a bird).

Actually, considering the number of aircraft flying in just the U.S. alone, that death ratio could be considerably higher--maybe this BAM is working in some way.
