http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishHistoryReview.asp?position=HISTORY&submit=VIEW&ID=1414751
thats what i got goign so far and i know how everyone will love to tell me what else i should pick/change. I'd like to keep it as close to $1000 as possible. I'm keeping the monitor, speakers( for now), mouse, keyboard, and cd/dvd drive from the one i got now ( everything else is going into a compuiter for my dad to use)

I have that RAM. It's sweet. Keep it, it's a steal at that price! Hard drives are probably pretty good stuff too, I like WD. Don't know about intel stuff (procs or mobo) and cases are fairly personal. If it were me, I'd consider a modular power supply, but I don't think yours is that bad. _________________ -EvilGenius V$^PK

like someone else stated above, get a 64 bit processor, there alot nicer, and will be passing xps here (on there way now, quick!)
i built a whole system, 2 days after i put it together the 64 bit's were the same as my 3000... heh
only downfall to 64 bit's are the boards, get ready to spend alittle change on a board...
everything else looks good |

It allows you to remove the power cables you're not using, so that they don't take up space in your case. Specifically, the default configuration for a power supply has a Mobo connector (20 or 24 pin) and then 2 cables with 2x 4-pin "standard" molex (for HD, opticals, some vid-cards) and 2 more cables with 2x 4-pin "standard" and one "mini" (or floppy drive power connector).
Now, since many people use, say, 2 HD and 2 optical drives, they have no use for half the cables leading out of the power supply. With a modular power supply they simply unplug those cables and leave them in a box or something. Then, if they add another hard drive, a fan controller, etc. they just grab one of the cables and plug it in.
I don't have one, and wish I did... to the extent I'm considering the somewhat dangerous/costly process of trying to modify my power supply so that it is modular. _________________ -EvilGenius V$^PK
