post your comp specs, your dod settings, any other programs your running while playing dod, and if you run virus and spyware scans and update them regularly. _________________ R.I.P. Blue |

Just a thought.. When the PC gets busy with a lotta video, audio, etc all at once, it could be eating up processor time. Having a graphics card with a lot of memory would off-load some of the processing time, but also running the latest audio, video drivers can help too. Get your MB memory up to 1 Gig.
What I ran into was not enuf graphics card memory and it was causing the PC's processor to do all the work (if you got less than 512m memory, all the worse) _________________ "I Cant HEAR YOU"

This is your problem. I had that same exact card and had framerate issues when I upgraded to my lcd monitor which required me to run at higher resolutions. I now run an ati 9800pro and haven't had those issues since, which has been over a year now. It is just an older card and can definately use upgrading. You should be able to find a great card for the $250 range that should last you another year or 2 before the next generation games require a more robust card. _________________

I dunno. I had a geforce 2 mx400 and it ran about 25 frames. Very good card. _________________

It was a good card back in the day. It is just not able to keep up with todays graphic intensive games. I ran about the same framerate with mine till I got in a firefight, then it would drop. If I shot a rocket the smoke would drop me down to 6 or 7 fps. My 9800 pro sticks at 99fps which is what I have my max set up at. It never drops below 99. I run at 1280x1024 res too.
Feel free to by another brand. I am not saying any one is better than the other. I have had great luck with my ati which is what I base my opinion off of. I do know that the card should be updated to something more able to handle the graphics of the games _________________

Don't forget to ask for advice and feedback on your potential card choices. We wouldn't want you buying a lemon. |

In the meantime, consider a full WinXP reinstall. Cleared up some issues I was having with my AMD XP 3200+ / ATi 9600 Pro-Ez 256MB. I jumped from 512 MB to 1GB RAM shortly after the XP reinstall, but even in the interimn(sp?) performance was much improved. _________________ -EvilGenius V$^PK

I would also suggest going into your graphics settings and ramping down your resolution. At least as a test. If this clears up your problem or at least improves it, you can be fairly confident you have a graphics card bottleneck. If this doesn't help at all, you might be looking at something else. I would also double check the graphics settings for Driver software, I always use OpenGL. I know I have had default settings switch it to "Software" in the past and that made everything run terribly slow. I don't know about Direct3D, perhaps someone can't comment on that, if you prefer to use that.
We have to remember that HL is a pretty old game and I think it should be able to run quite smooth on a machine of your speed. So, it would be worth the trouble to isolate the problem. You might also try the obvious cleaning out of your Recycle Bin, Deleting Internet Temporary files and Defragging the HD. This helps Windows play nice in a whole bunch of ways, but it doesn't fix everything. But it don't cost nothing. |
