Some of those games are terrible, yes, but the list is fairly accurate in listing which ones were important (though I personally think they should have included an earlier zelda game and metroid).

Sonic - Inspired comics, TV show, clothing, etc. Was very innovative as gameplay was more like a fast-paced ride and you had to dodge the enemies. They also created a new health system. So long as you had rings to lose (and didn't drown or fall into instant death) you couldn't ever die.

FFVII - The game that made the entire series in America, and also argueably the favorite of the entire series. It has recently inspired a movie, and was revolutionary as an RPG (still is actually, seeing as how no one has really matched it). It also had a great storyline and characters. Most importantly, it brought to attention the power of CG's in games. I can remember watching my brother playing the game and reaching a CG point, and simply staring in awe. We would go back and create savepoints just before the CG's so that we could watch them again.

GTA III - Degraded gaming? I personally think it has brought gaming up to what it was supposed to be; a simulation. Ever gotten so mad that you want to hurt someone really badly? Go play GTA and you can. You can punch them, kick them, shoot, run over, and stab them. You can drive a really fast car, cause millions of property damage, escape the coppers, and still have time for lunch. All violence and gameplay aside, look at the world of GTA. Rockstar created 3 interactable cities, and they keep getting bigger and more interactive with each passing game. The have inspired other games to attempt the same thing, and I personally believe those have failed miserably. Rockstar has an amazing gift which they vibrantly display in GTA.

nice comments VP i agree 100% especially with your assesment of GTA series.

i used to go to save right before an amazing CG scene in FF7...especially when a certain characters dies in the middle. I know its kinda nerdy but it really is a very touching scene and very well done. Minus Chrono Trigger (one of my fav RPG's speaking of revolutionary) i can't think of a game in which a main character died without it being the end of the game sacrifice sort of thing. I remember all the BB postings on sites claiming you could bring that certain character in FF 7 back to life hahaha...hey atleast in chrono trigger you had a choice to bring him back or not or continue with the main bad (supposed bad guy) as the lead character and continue the quest.

No I totally disagree. Period. That's a stupid list. I mean seriously how is a Star Wars GAME important. It sucked even. ET was put on there as a joke. Everybody knows that that was the most retarded game ever made. Sonic the Hedgehog, nothing important about it except its graphics. I don't think FFVII has influenced gaming at all. Grand Theft Auto has only degraded gaming thus. And I think most of us know my feelings about Halo #Fist

im sensing a little hostility...i also think its ironic that a star wars fan hates the game. but hell i hate all the magic the gathering games to come out and im a huge mtg person...so i guess its checkmate

Several things:

1. The Macintosh was a game? WTF?

2. "20. Dragon Warrior (1986: NES)" /me does the happy dance while humming that great theme music.

3. Yes, not every game that's on that list is great. I mean it has E.T. for Atari 2600! The game that showed people how not to make a landfill......er, filler. Although there have been games that come close, nothing has been as bad as that was. Believe me, I played it, as I'm sure others have had to suffer through.

I think Chrono Trigger was a little more revolutionary than FF7.

And I'm not too big a fan of Star Wars games hehe. But I loooooooooove Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast! Can't get enough of that Kyle Katarn.

1979 - Commodore

Hahaha, I remember when my parents bought a Commodore 64K!!!

We were the first in our area to buy one and they paid something like 875$ (can) for it, without any monitor or disk drive!!! Only the comp/keyboard and a tape reader!!!

It was taking us more than 15min to load a monopoly game!!!

And don't think it was a very fancy monopoly board in 3d!!! Only 2d, not very complicated and no very nice graphic too!!!!

875$ for 64k.......!!!!! Hahahahahaahahaahahahahaa!!! Crazy world!

here is my list of the 5 greatest and most revolutionary games of the COMMON (yes that means 1995 and on) era.

1.) Half-Life(1998): What can be said about this game besides it being the greatest game in history? It was the first First Person Shooter to include good graphics with intense gameplay, the best set of AI and situational strategic environments, and a phenomenal story line, all rolled into one game. Simply the best, period

1.) Star Craft(1998): This is the very first REAL Real Time Strategy game. With decent graphics for its time (especially in an RTS), addictive gameplay, great story line, and good balance, this ranks as my number two choice of most revolutionary games in history.

3.) Everquest(1999): This was and is the most influential and popular Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG). With an active player base of well into a hundred thousand people, good graphics for its time, and the ability to absolutely addict you (quite literally), this game ranks as #3 on my most revolutionary games list.

4.) Half-Life 2(2004): Half Life 2 is just an even more bad ass continuation of the original Half Life. It combines all of the original elements of Half Life (minus gore), and adds in alot of really awesome stuff (like physics, astounding AI, and evironmental interactivity). A truely phenominal game.

5.) Natural Selection(2002?): This mod for half life is the first widespread game that I have seen that includes an RTS with a FPS. This creates whole new levels of gameplay, interactivity, and fun. Over all, i would rate this as the 5th most revolutionary game (and possibly my most controvercial pick) of all time.

hey rancor, im gonna have to dissagree with ya on that one, even though it wasnt the first best rpg and the best rpg wasnt on the list id have to say that FF7 did justice to the world. It was one of the best games ive played and it kept me hooked from start to finish. The interactive magic and summon system made the game a great game in my opponion

even if Chrono Trigger didnt make the list i think most of yall that have played it would agree that it is mostdef an amazing game.

Also parappa the rappa was a great game, very very funny indeed, and i think its worth of the spot for it was one of the first musicly involved games (i think atleast)

Quake 2 should have made the list. Before it, multiplayer gaming was all direct-connect, and only really popular at colleges and pre-"LAN Party" events. Hell, Quake 2 spawned the LAN Party as we all know it today.

Battlezone (the one from '96, not the 1980 one, but I'm glad that's on the list) should be on there too. It is the first moderatly successful First Person RTS game, and I think it's a shame that it got so little recognition.

Ok ok after seconds of thinking about it I think I just got a little into it and put FF7. FF7 although not being my favorite of the series was probably the most revolutionary being, really, the first 3D RPG.
