CPU Usage

Hey guys, I don't know whats going on here but fro some reason all of a sudden when I open like firefox and maybe musicmatch I am using 100% of my CPU, which is freaking crazy. Does anyone know how to fix this issue and lower my cpu usage.
When I open up the windows task manager, firefox is averaging 50 on the CPU column, and music match around 45. Which is really high, I don't know why they started to go up all of a sudden.
I almost wonder if I have a trojan so I may check into that, but any other ideas?

My computer is P4 2.8 Ghz HT
with 1 gig or ram

Way too much usage. Sounds like a whole lot of things are saturating the CPU.
Sounds like a trojan, or spybot was downloaded and is running in background. What else is running in Task Manager? Can you account for everything?
I know Gator was a pain in the arse for me, worse than crabgrass and a bear to get out at first. Do you have Spybot S & D, or one of those others progs to root out the crap?
Can you do a performance check of the RAM to see if a chip has dropped out or something? SiSoft Sandra is one prog that can provide some info regarding sys performance.

Reb, that's not good news. I believe it's time to sell all of your computer equipment and take up another hobby, like lawn darts. I hear they are having try-outs for disc golf in your area. Besides, it would do ya good to get away from computers for about 20-25 years..

I think I solved my problem, I ran this program called "Pest Patrol" and it did the trick i believe, I also went head and cleaned deleted file data, did a more through registry cleaning, as well as a defragmenting. So it seems to be fixed for the time being, thank God cause I was on the verge of reformatting, 100% usage will drive ya nuts.
