Its a monster that Valve decided never to put into the game. I can't remember what it's name is but its in the HL2 Limited Edition artbook that I've got upstairs.

The creature is called the Hydra, it is some sort of new Xen wildlife creature. The battle with it was supposed to be HL2's equivelant of fighting the Tentacles in the blast pit. They got cut because, as someone said, they were only fun to watch other people get killed by, fighting it yourself was boring and just frustrating.

"Seven Hours" is a rumored expansion, presumably where you are fighting in or around the Seven Hour War, when the Combine first showed up. Adrian Shepherd is one of the likley candidates for the hero, since A) he's a military man, B) we haven't heard of him in HL2), and B) Gman has him locked in stasis aswell for a later time. Nothing about "Seven Hours" or Adrian Shepherd has been confirmed, but many people out there (myself included!) are hoping that both are true.
