Ok I am looking to get a LCD Monitor. This will be the last step in my major up grade (3.4 p4, 6800 gt, 1 GB pc 4400, mb, cooling stuff).

The size I am looking at is between 19 and 20.1. Just seeing what people recommend or specifically use. This would be used for a lot of gaming so keep that in mind.

(edit I also get discounts on viewsonic and phillips so I am liking those already)

Did you fall into some heavy cash Dakon

I would recommend a Viewsonic. Samsungs are decent also. Get the highest contrast ratio one you can get, with good refresh timings. The Dell 1905FP has had good remarks, although I am not a Dell fan and not sure who makes it for them. Make is up to you.

You could say that. Finally got a job that pays me quite well (took over a year to get into this company in the position I wanted).

Has anyone heard of the brand called NEOVO?

Yea Viewsonics are a great brand. I have a MAG inovision (it came with my current computer as a package deal) and I find it's quite good. But if you've got the bucks, I'd go with a viewsonic anyday.

I've used several different brands over the years, but I've always wanted the best (champaign taste, beer budget) But on my last purchase, I didn't let price be the deciding factor. I made all the 'compare' stops at Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City, etc, then did a little research on the ones I liked the best. I ended up with an NEC Multisync LCD 19" XtraView. I have both the VGA and DVI hooked up to the same pc, and I do all my gaming with the DVI interface. In fact, I don't use the VGA at all.

My eyesight started going when I turned 47, and the extra-sharp and crisp features of DVI won hands down.

Do yourself a favor and go do the shop/compare before making up your mind (you were gonna do that anyway, right?) Your tastes may be different than the rest of us. only MAKE SURE it had DVI. I believe your video card has DVI, correct? Most new high-end ones do. You can get a DVI to VGA cable if you want to use VGA. Most have both anyway.

Just my two cents. Hey, you asked. #Scramble

Here's what I heard about LCD monitor for gaming.

(NOTE: This is what I read two year ago, dunno if it's still true. Maybe LCD technology has improved for gaming).

1- LCD for gaming has a tendency to "burn" pixels, resulting in dead pixels.

2- An LCD is really only designed to be run at one particular resolution. If you try to display something at a resolution of 1024x768 on a screen with a maximum resolution of 1280x1024, the display will actually stretch your 1024x768 image over the full 1280x1024 pixels.

3- As Clay Pigeon said, LCD pixels respond much slower than what you may be used to on a CRT monitor, and that can cause ghosting and streaking, especially at high frame rates.

4- The price vs CRT monitor!!! You'll be able to have a bigger and better CRT monitor at the same price of a smaller LCD!!!

So, just like I've said previously, maybe LCD has improved a lot during the last 2 year but from my point of view, I think i'll go, if I had to change again my monitor today, for one of the best CRT monitor instead of a mid range LCD...

That's my point of view, you don't have to listen to it!!!

I'm a Maximum PC reader, and right now they recommend the Dell UltraSharp 2001fp. I tend to trust them, but unfortunately with Dell you can't really look at one before you buy it... unless they have a kiosk in your local mall.

LCD's arent too good for gaming, unless you get one made so it can handle gaming. you also want a monaitor that has a good refresh rate so the high FPS on you new vid card isnt useless.

i'd go with what evil said or a viewsonic CRT.

heres a thread i found on HLFallout about monaitors for gaming(they have alot of people who a ton about computers)
