My pc is about a year and half old now, and I normally buy a new one ever 2 1/2 years or so. I just upgraded the ram from 512 to 1024.
So hopefully my graphics card lasts me till then, if not it will be this
256 Nvidia Geforce 6800
^^^
This is a great card from my understanding _________________

The 6800 GT I have made by Leadtek is amazing. By far the best video card I have had. Cooled extreemley well with i would guess 8 oz of copper. ANd the software is amazing (gpu temp, ram temp, sys temp, fan speed). |

I must admit that the 6800gt is a god damn good card!!! But it is way too much expensive (650$can)!
I just bought a 6600gt for 345$can. I read a lot of review before buying it, and from what I saw the 6600gt is the best buy to do (speaking about performance/price)!
For sure, if you are too rich and you don't know where to put your money, you can send me a few $ , or you cant buy those very expensive card (6800U, 6800GT, X800XT, etc...) but I think that is not worth it NOW. The 6600GT is powerful enough (and more) to run any of the newest released. Maybe in 3 or 4 year it will begin to be limited but who cares, you'll have to change your computer anyway!!!
Ah yeah, this is about spec, so here's mine!!
AMD Athlon XP 3200+
1024gb of DDR400Mhz pc3200
Mb: gygabyte (don't remember which exactly)
MSI 6600GT 128mb video card
P.S. Sorry for the canadian price but I was too lousy to check for US$! _________________ S Q U I D L Y

wahts the difference between that one and the BFG 6800GT OC? is it just that the BFG is pre-oc'ed so the leadtech costs less? _________________ R.I.P. Blue |

The key thing about the Leadtek is the quality it was built with. I did a ton of research before i purchased it.
Here is the card I have the Leadtek 6800 GT 256mb ddr3:
On the backside of the Leadteck you cannot see the 1/2 inch of copper heatsink that covers most of that side.
Here is the BFG model:
Notice how the BFG is made to fit in one slot and the Leadtek is designed to take 2 slots as per what Nvidia recommends for better cooling and performance. The Leadtek can easily be overclocked to match the BFG and if you have a big enough powersupply it will run easily run as a 6800 Ultra
As for why the BFG is more expensive..I have no idea. |

Ok now I really happy. Under the strongest of loads my 6800GT is now a 6800 Ultra. Does not heat up much more than regular load and by no means gets close to the limit. _________________ P4E @ 4.00 Ghz, LeadTech 6800GT 420mhz/1.16Ghz, 1 gb Corsair PC 4400, Creative X-fi, Raptor

In answer to your observation Rebel Rouser:
You would think it would load slower but it doesn't.
In actuality it takes my buddies machines just as long to load things up and they run 2.7 and 3.4 processors with 512MB ddr. I have the OS pretty stripped down as to avoid heavy process and RAM usage(well... as much as XP can be stripped down).
Besides....you try convincing your wife you 'need' to upgrade your pc.
wise guy. |

I think you missed the point. You state that your pc uses a 1.7 MegaHertz processor. 286's were faster than that.... |
