Thats just what this country needs: more guns [/sarcasm]

Im with you Shocky. All guns except for those designed for hunting should be banned except for use by law enforcement, military, etc. The 2nd ammendment didnt have hand guns and assault rifles in mind when it was written.

So now I can get high (relatively) capacity magazine again right? Weapons are only as dangerous as their owners Shocky (assuming they arent shoddy pieces of crap). I say that individuals should be allowed to own any weapon or weapons system that they desire and can afford. If they use their property for ill then punish them severely. If people get killed as a result of malice, then hang them high Law abiding citizens should not be punished for the acts of criminals. Also, the ban outlawed semi automatic weapons, not full auto weapons. Full auto weapons and heavy arms have been regulated by several laws from the 1930s and the 1960s. These laws are still in effect. You arent going to see people running around with rpgs or select fire ak47s in your neighborhood anytime soon.

The law did not ban any gun, just from having high capacity mags and combination of accessories. Read this site to understand better.

That would be unconstitutional since every citizen has the right to own firearms. Don't get me wrong...I think the idea of people having a huge stockpile of guns in their house is extremely ridiculous, but everyone has a right to protect themselves.

Exactly, the third amendment man "We have the right to BEAR ARMS"

Times have changed, and so has the need for the 2nd amendment. No longer do we have need for the average citizen to protect themselves with a gun. This was not in the minds of the framers of the consitution when they wrote it.

England has proven over the years that crime overall can be reduced by making guns illegal. The old saying "If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns", is an escape for people like the NRA who think that they need protection from our own government. We do not need guns to protect us from our own government!

Laws like this, where if you perform a crime with a gun get you an automatic 5 years in jail is just a start, we, as citizens of the US, don't need guns anymore.

Sure, shooting is cool, shooting makes you a man, get over it. It is time that we reduce the crime in the country, even if it punishes people who will never commit a crime with a gun. Can you honestly say that a law which will protect others, including your self, your friends, your neighbors and children is a bad law???

If the gun is a rifle that can be used for hunting, and is, at minimum, a certain length, uses certain bullets with a max grain size, and has a maximum size clip, okay you can use it to bring home the bacon. But we don't need hand guns or assault weapons to kill a deer.

BTW, doesn't this thread constitute a political discussion and deserve being locked???

Ok shockwave is locked from replying

Having a gun handy has saved several of my family members from harm. to say the goverment is going to help you is a little far fetched. They just cant be in your bedroom when you need them. Although Im sure some of you might like for a big strong uniformed person to be iin your room to help you!

Saved them from what??? Someone else with a gun.

Let's stiffen all penalties for guns, and phase them out of our society all together (except those used for hunting and they meet certain restrictions). Make it so difficult for people to get guns and their ammunition.

When almost any idiot that can walk down the street can get a gun, we have a problem.

What's wrong with the recreational user going to a gun range, whether it be indoor or outdoor, from taking a product that they purchased and shooting it??

I am not for or against anything when it comes to guns. I just don't think it makes sense to place a ban on them. Do you really think it will prevent people from getting them?? The wrong people still get guns that are considered illegal. Placing a ban on all guns just makes no sense.

Because there is nothing to stop that same recreational user from deciding his life is terrible and he can take revenge on others just because he has a gun.

Maybe we should ban cars too since people can use those just as easily to take revenge on others just because he has a car. That is silly.

You cannot control people the way you are describing. There is always a way for people to lash out on others. If they wish to do it with a gun then they will, whether there is a ban on them or not. There is always a way to get a gun without doing it legally. And those are the legal ones. It is just as easy to get a hold of the illegal ones too. Banning them will not keep people from getting them. All it will do is keep legitament people from getting them

Right then, I'll just chase down the criminal stealing my stuff and beat the crap out of him. And if he has a gun, because he is a criminal who breaks laws , then I guess I'm just screwed. Or I can instead use other deadly weapons such as a crossbow, tazer, cattle prod, sword or knives to maim the guy. Why don't we outlaw possession of all deadly things? Steak knives, daggers, swords, shurikens, ancient tribal weapons and the like are all outlawed now. Metal darts and chainsaws are illegal. Anything that could be considered an effective killing weapon is outlawed. Sounds pretty stupid, huh? Face the facts, criminals will be criminals, and if they really want to they can find a way to obtain firearms.

Gents, gun control is almost as controversial as abortion, politics and Abba so I am going to make a call and lock this thread.

If your a gun fan (I am) I suggest you take your discussions to a more gun oriented site, we dont need people getting upset about things here.

Now, lets all go to TV7 and work out our differences on a good map

JD - The mean thread locker.
