A friend of mine has errors with Windows, big surprise. He wants to start with a clean drive and reinstall everything. How does he go about doing this. With the help of Mr. Hat we have a bootable floppy disc, I think. He told me to have him download maxblaster3.exe and put it to a floppy. We need to erase this drive. Any help??

If you really wish to wipe the drive download a tool called Autoclave, its a free tool for wiping drives.

Or, just download a bootdisk image from bootdisk.com (Dos 6.21 is my favorite) and then download delpart.exe from wherever you can find it, put it on the floppy, boot from it and delete all partitions.

Next, boot from your windows CD and away you go.

If its XP or 2000 boot from the cd and it will give you a choice at the begining to do a fresh install/upgrade or repair..
Go with the fresh install and it will prompt you to Partition and format the drive.

Easiest way IMO.

He has XP but it is an upgrade disc. I am not sure what the primary OS is though. I told him to put the XP disc in and he said it doesn't allow him to do anything that way. I was not in front of the machine so I am not sure what was going on. I was trying to help him over the phone.

I may have that delpart program you were talking about JD from back when I did mine. It seemed to work for mine so maybe I will give him that. If not then I will do a search and find it.

When you upgrade your OS it will install the new format to installing Windows if you upgraded to XP.
