Ok well i got a free 10 gb hard drive so i decided to use it, and it worked for a while. but now it randomly messed up, and when i try to format it so i can use it again, it always says cannot complete format.

does anyone know a better way to format a hd instead of using the winXP format thing that works like crap?

*edit* well it worked, im not sure why but i could only format to a FAT32 drive, it would not let me go to ntfs... still wondering why if you have an idea about it please tell me

I had the same problem when I tried formatting my Sata HDs. One would format and the other failed in NTSF. Eventually, I DL a diagnostic program from Maxtor and unfortunately found out that one of my HDs had a critical disk error.

Run scandisk and see if it reports a disk error also make sure you properly set up your partition/partitions.

Good Luck.......

Easyiest way i found to format a drive is Open ur computer case and unplug all the plugs from the back of your dvd/cd player and plug them into your new harddrive turn your computer on go into your bios have it load your new hard drive then goto MY Computer now you see 2 hard drive icons one will be your C: drive the other will be the hard drive you just added and will be ur d: that was previously your cd drive, now right click on the D: drive and select format... Pretty simple...

Its 10 gigs. Turn it into a paper weight if you need one. Most hard drives can be had for under a dollar a gig now. You would be better off saving for a little bit and buying a higher capacity drive.

Try partition magic or microscope.
