After graduating High School I never went to college. I continued to work as a network admin w/o the need to attend. Well, after mulling it over and finding the funds to support it, I am able to go to college on my own time.
Today starts the first class of many from the University of Pheonix online. I will be able to complete all my classes with out having to physically show up for class or go to a campus. It all seems like a great idea, and I was wondering if anyone here has done this or something similar.
And, if I'm like other people here I will post questions pertaining to my papers to have the Ville Community help write them for me j/k. _________________

I just wanted to congratulate you for going back to school. After working for a while, it can take a lot of courage to go back to school. I went to college right after highschool though, and ended up dropping out 3 months before graduation. Sometimes it's probably better to wait til you're actually ready.
I've never taken University courses online, but I actually did do a special online highschool program, which enabled me to work, and get my school done at the same time. It was interesting. Can be somewhat difficult to stay motivated at times with so much going on.
Anyway, good luck and congratulations! _________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

I took some courses at the junior college here online. I had taken classes on campus as well. My experience is that it is hard to stay motivated, but all in all the problem I had was the same problems I had on campus. Online is great if it is self pace, my problem is I get burned out on the usuall 16? week school semester. The online classes were still based on this schedule. I have looked into Phoenix Online, but don't know how their schedule is. So let me know how it works out. I am considering going that route with Phoenix or DeVry. |

Furthering your education at any age is always a good idea. I did it in my mid 20's and it was a great move. My father did it in his mid 30's. The only regrets are that we didn't do it earlier. Better late then never though. Just be sure to give 110%. As you get older it is not as easy to go back and do it over again. _________________

THATS AWESOME!!!
My mom did the univ of phoenix path. she had alot of credits already completed from when she was originally in college and went to univ of phoenix to finish it off. it worked out great because she worked full time and all that. also i was a TA when i was in college at SMU and dealt with alot of distance students who watched the class on DVD. some said they felt like they were out of the loop and not part of the class, but most said it was a great experience. |

I am taking my first two online courses this semester too.. I picked ones that I found interesting to be online though cuz I have heard a lot of people say that it is hard to stay motivated for online classes. I figure I am always online though, and can work on my classes at work, so why not try it
Good luck!!!
edit: Just went to sign up my first online course w/ instructor and found this page http://student.ccbcmd.edu/distance/online/prereg.html assesses whether you are able to take class and whether you are technically "savvy" enough
Didn't realize my class was based at a different college either... jerks, now I have to go up there for tests??? wth....jerks
Omg, you guys need to take the technical savvy test... LOL, lets put it this way, 16. Do you know how to log on to the Internet? yes no _________________

I think the motivation depends on if it is self-paced or based on the traditional school. In the traditional school format you are forced to work on a subject for a set time and then to move on to the next class. The problem with that is if you feel you could put in 2 hours of motivated time on say English, but not Algebra. Then common since would dictate that you spend those two hours on English. But in Trad. School you can only work on English for 1 to 1.5 hours, before having to move onto another subject that you may not be motivate to work on at the time. You are essentially misusing your time in an inefficient way. I usually got burnt out during the semester 3/4ths the way through. Once I dropped one class, it became easier as I was constantly getting burned out. I looked at the the Phoenix Website some more and found that the classes are 5-6 weeks long. Also you can take just one at a time. That sounds just like what I need. |

It is pretty expensive. One would think that online schooling would be cheaper, since the school would not have the expense of building and maintaining the campus. |
