All I have to say is this better not be an automatic preload, I don't want that taking up space on my computer.

it probably is, but on your games list you can just right click it and stop the preload

Im sure preloading start a week or so before you can unlock and play the game. That way you can do it while you sleep (preload) and not dramatiically impact your bandwidth when you need it. Then again this just might be wishful thinking on my part...

You dont need to buy the CD to have it on disk. Just back up your steam folder after you have the game. Although I like steam and think it's great for gaming imo the HL2 release is going to cripple the steam network and interupt game play for weeks.
