One that has an effective random function - something that winamp never got right for me, even when the random slider was where it was supposed to be.
And not Windows Media Player

I have kept my eye on the Neuros MP3 player. I haven't purchased one yet, but that is because their versions kept upgrading. I have been waiting for that to slow down a bit and it seems that it might have.

As for the effective randomizer, there is a forum on their website that might contain the answer to your question.

Are you talking about a program to play mp3s on your pc, or a piece of hardware that you can carry with you and listen to mp3s on?

If he is looking for software and neither wmp or winamp will work for him then he is basically sol. The only other player I have used is the core player and its hella unstable.

I guess soo, huh? Oh well, I guess he might need an external MP3 player to get the functionality that a software player doesn't

Jetaudio is a good one. It also has some ripping, broadcasting and burning features.
