Erm, that link is inactive now Rizzo.

I'm making a short video for DoD.net - on a slightly humorous even on Kalt with the ever-so-spectacular 1.2 BAR. Let's just say that the lateral recoil randomizer helped me out. ;^)

I only need about 30 seconds of that demo, I think it's about 20 minutes long.

Now, from what I understand you've gotta convert a demo into .bmps, and then into an .avi where you can chop it up and edit it in Vegas Video.

So Rizzo, if I uploaded the demo, could you turn it into an .avi for me so I can edit it? I can tell you exactly what part of it I need which isn't very much, but I have no idea how much labour is involved. I'll upload the demo and tell you which 30 seconds I need if you don't mind doin' it. :^)

I have some footage that I want to make into a movie as well. If you could update the link that would be spectacular! No hurry though, I've got all the time in the world.

Until the link gets fixed:

Play your demo using viewdemo <demoname> ( i like viewdemo cuase you can pause, and go forward/back).

When you get near the part you want to turn into an avi, pull down the console and type startmovie <your movie name> 30:
ie, startmovie sbrules 30

immediately close the console. You'll now be watching your demo and it will be very choppy. When you get to where you want to stop, pull down the console and type endmovie.

You will now have a bunch of sbrules0000*.bmp images in your dod directory(c:/program files\steam\steamapps\emailaddy\day of defeat\dod)

I'm going to give you vegas video 5 instructions because that's what I use:

open vegas video, and open file. browse to your dod folder and select the first bmp image(sbrules0001.bmp) check the numbered stills checkbox and it will show the range(ie 00001-000450) of your bmps. It will import all the files you created with startmovie.

drag the bin containing all the bmps down to your timeline so you make an avi.

Now I don't have vegas with me so I can't remember the command, but I think it's file-->render as

it will bring up a dialog box with all the settings. I would just render it as a microsoft .avi file with no compression. A 30 second clip should be less than 100MB in size. You can choose divx or xvid compression here if you want, but I don't compress until I put all my clips together.

Choose a file name and it should start rendering. It will take as long as it needs(about 5-10 minutes on my 2.2ghz box)

You should have a spiffy new avi of your pwnage.

Mmkay, well I figured it out before SB could post. I used Fraps 2.0 to capture the jazz, and then used VirtualDub to compress it.

Vegas Video is the most perplexing thing ever. Ever.

Hrm! Well, I used Fraps to capture each clip. Then I used Virtual Dub to compress them and still retain quality. Now, my problem is making the video. If I try your Vegas Video method, it goes really dark and the video is about 260 megs as opposed to the 20 megs when I compress them individually.

How can I just string those clips together and add a song?

Adobe Premiere to me is the best editing tool, in the sense of detail, but be prepared to spend the rest of your life learning how to use it.

Honestly, I think it's an amazing program, but you HAVE to be patient for the learning process is LOOOOONG.

I'm in the middle of a video which I hope to be able to release for all to enjoy. It's just typical ownage, but hey, everyone loves to watch.

Avid Symphony is the best, but $80,000, and requires hardware. Chaos films uses adobe premiere with adobe after effects.
