Man this video is from a year ago. There is more to story (as usual), but I doubt I could find it now. I believe the car was stolen as well.

That was awesome. I think it was a good thing to do, as it was the only way to teach them a lesson. They were freaking teaching a child to loot! What other recourse did the soldiers have? They couldnt shoot the looters, and there were no functional jails at the time. It was anarchy, and I think the soldiers did the best that they could at the time to preserve life while still punishing crime. They are soldiers, not trained policemen.

In the ever-continuing battle to win hearts and minds in Iraq the Army is working to control looting. PBS' Frontline followed a group of American tankers through Iraq to make one of its famous documentary programs.
A video clip (it's 3 megabytes, Windows Media format) from Frontline is available showing how the US Army combats looting. This is, by the way, a fairly old clip — it comes from the pre-uprising time period. The steps to combat looting, for those without Windows Media Player:

1. Yell at the Iraqis, then complain that they "don't understand".
2. Empty two clips worth of pistol rounds into the Iraqis' car
3. Run over the car with a tank not once but twice to make sure that it is completely destroyed
4. Yell "Tankers! Hooah!" to celebrate
5. Realize that the Iraqi whose car you just destroyed was (until you destroyed his car) a taxi driver, and now has no way to support his family

I think they did the right thing by crushing the car, the part they screwed up was getting caught on tape. How will it stop them from looting.....well its going to be alot harder for them when they have to walk home with all that wood on their shoulders. They are going to have to steal another car, steal some gas for the car and then pull a couple more of their children out of school so the can teach the next generation of Iraqi's how to act as stupid as they. I have no sympathy for them, the question was asked how would I feel if it was my property. Well, I don't think we'll ever know, I wouldn't be so stupid and low-down to be stealing my neighbors possesions. Its not like the tankers crushed the car "for fun", there was a reason for it and alot to the story that we will never know.

Who knows, that car could have been stolen a couple months later from the guy who orginally stole and used to do a drive by rocket attack on some of our soldiers. Then what would you say??

If Saddam would have caught those clowns, they would have been crushed in that car along with their entire family.....if you ask me, they got off easy.

I was watching a show earlier that explained, we as Americans sometimes find it hard to believe doing something like that car crushing can be helpful because we have never had to live in a time or place that required it. And that Americans in general find it hard to hate, or understand that some things cannot be solved with words or diplomacy.

Those of you who think that was an overreaction or that the car should not have been crushed are wrong.

This isn't, "Oh some guy went and stole some lumber, lets arrest him and give him due process." There is no such thingin Iraq right now. they were caught, they were guilty. The Army made an example out of the car used to Loot.

Guy's Taxi? Who cares! He shouldn't have been looting with his Taxi, duh! idiot. They got what they deserved, and we got one hell of a good car crushing on video.

Tankers! Hooah!

one of my best friend's was a tank driver during that time last year in Iraq.

That clip is from a documentry done by PBS Frontline, the documentry was called "Frontline: Truth, War and Consequence" aired on PBS Oct 2003.

this happens with a lot of videos it says error loading codec and then i get sound but a blank screen
