get a T1 line sure it'll cost an @$$ load, but it'll fix all of your problems _________________ Timex takes a shellin, but the time keeps a-tellin' |

The simplest thing to check, and pretty much the one you can't do anything about, is a bad hop. Do a trace route and see which hop is making your ping skyrocket. _________________

Check THIS site out. They may be able to give you some helpful advice as well. If it is just in game then there may be some other tweaks you can play with in your configs as well. _________________

Bah Fluffy, you know that Req shouldn't be getting that crappy of latency or packet loss, he's got a fine connection and is pretty close to Chicago. T1 is overkill for this, there are all sorts of solutions for Req.
I've got a horribly slow broadband connection, I get a measly 13.0 Kb/sec on downloads but I still manage to ping at about 70-130 at TV4 and TV1. It's like $10 bucks a month though. Kekeke... my old 256 K DSL connection pinged better at TV1 but worse at TV4, very weird.
Anyway, Req, open up Steam, check Steam --->options---->connection (I think this is the right path, I'm at school right now so I can't check) and make sure your connection is at DSL<768 (or whatever). Steam updates had a nasty habit of resetting it to 33 K. Mostly Harmless had the same problem, he couldn't figure out why his ping was so unstable until he fixed that option. |

It could be you Steam settings, but most likely it's a bad hop somewhere on the way to the server.
If you don't know how to do a trace route, do this:
1) Go to Start/Run
2) Type cmd and press enter
3) At the command line, type "tracert tv1.theville.org" or whatever server you are having problems on 4) Press enter and look for high numbers in the list.
If you don't know what to look for, just post the results here. _________________

#10 is the worst.
173ms 201ms 203ms DLS_Internet.demarc.cogentco.com [66.250.5.126]
The rest are around 100 or below, I wouldn't know what to do with this info though.

I just did a tracert and that is the same hop that mine goes up. Must be cogentco.com Mine is at 12- 15 untill I get to them then it jumps to 62. I'm not complaining though. _________________ <eVa>Simpleman-V$=<RIP> |
