Recently Ive been pissed off at my current computer (800MHz, 300 some-odd MB of SDRAM, 40GB HD, Win ME, etc)... It sucks and constantly slows my progress in games, graphics and development for ASF... POS comp #Fist... Anyways, I was looking at dells (my aunt gets a 10% discount and would contribute $500 loonies to the deal) if I went for a dell. Logically, its a good deal (considering that Im getting another possible $500 from another aunt and uncle). I was looking at two platforms, the Dimension 8300 and the 4600C. I dont know if their "good" though...

So are they good? Ive been looking at some different companies but dell is the cheapest and thats a big factor for me...

Personally, I'd just build one or have one built. Even if you're getting a 10% discount it'd probably be cheaper to build one... but then you've gotta worry about software.

It's still probably a good deal, but getting the parts that you want is usually the best way to go.

Or you could save money and upgrade your memory and get a better OS like Windows2000 or XP. Your problem is more likely to do with ME than anything else.

How much are you actually looking to spend?? I know a few who have recently buit their own machines for half of what the big name companies charge, myself included.

My advice, post an information thread about what parts to get. Price everything HERE. You will get a much faster and reliable machine this way.

I priced my machine at other places like; Gateway, Dell, and Alienware. The average price for what I have was around $3,600. I only paid around $2,000. This includes buying a new OS too!!

Ask =B3-SSgt.AJ-UVS= about his Dell. I have helped him numerous times with it beacuse of harware and pre-loaded software problems. The tech support is in India and unless you speak Indian you will never get anything done through them.
I recoomend a home built system. You don't get all the performance killing pre-loaded software or the proprietaty harware that doesn't work with anything else, which even with Dell makes it hard to upgrade. I used to like Dell and reccomend them, but their recent decisions to use cheap parts and outsouce tech. support to India has changed my mind!
