THis is the funny part....

Why would valve preload CZ?

85% of steam users are CS'ers. They are the target audience for CZ. Imagine thousands and thousand of people dowloading cz all with in hours of its release. The steam network would be crippled and no one would get to play.

I dont mind the preload, but they should say do you want it or not, not make you go and manually turn it off. It gave me a window if I wanted to preorder and I said no, then when I went to the properties window there it was, downloading it anyways. They should at least just ask if you want it or not, or have steam look at if they have CS and if so, then do the preload. Most ppl that dont play CS prob wont play CZ.

If they gave a better ability to stop, and a way to delete the files, I would not care. But since it did not give me warning that it was preloading, and no way to delete the files I am upset because they are wasting my hard drive space. THis is my first real complaint about steam, up till this point I was nuetral about it

I agree blown. It should have only preloaded to CS users but who knows at this point if that option was available to them.

Just as a side note I played the single player CZ almost all night last night and at first I thought it sucked but as the game progressed I thought it was cool. No wicked cool HL2 shit but all in all a good game...

Agreed. Even though most that use steam may want CZ since most are CS'ers they should still have asked permission. Who cares what the numbers are. If they want it then they will click yes.

Also there was mention of other programs preinstalling stuff on your comp. Spyware is not something that is greeted with open arms. If steam wants to be put in the same category as spyware then they will not go far.

You have both the ability to stop the preload and delete the files. You would need to go to games, and select CZ right click and go to preloading(not sure on the menu option) and you can tell it to delete or stop.

Spyware reports information about you, and your browsing to advertisers. You cannot put steam into the same group as spyware. It does no such thing, in fact a recent hardware survey asked for your permission to report the info to valve. Doesnt really sound like spyware to me.
It really sounds to me like alot of you disagree with steams user agreement, I would suggest you uninstall their software from your computer....lmao....jk.....plz dont cry...........

I dont 100% disagree that pre loading sucks, but valve is learning as they go. You cant break new ground without some trial and error. Perhaps they could have beta'd longer but if they had of its likely that upon release they would have had the same B/W issues as before and rather than everyone being pissed 6 months ago they would be pissed right b4 the release of HL2.

Even though we agreed to the whole agreement, we didn't agree to each part of it individually. Most of us only agreed to it so we can continue to play the game we like. So the other stuff, like this automatic preloading stuff, is just the crap that came with it, so we complain about it. Makes sense to me.

Beggers can't be choosers Stevo You DID agree to the WHOLE thing, not just part of it. Anything you didn't like at the time should have been complained about at release/installation of the software, not when0 they decide to hold you to that agreement.

But that wouldn't make sense. Even though we clicked "I agree" it doesn't mean we are 100% happy with it. It doesn't say we can't talk about the stuff they do in a negative way in the agreement, does it?

Of course not. But you can't fault valve or steam when they decide to preload stuff like that. If nobody complained early on about that part of the agreement, or what it might signify, valve is going to assume that it's alright to upload whatever they choose to on to your computer. They could have gone about doing it better, but when has valve been known to do things in a simple and logical fashion?

If you don't want it to happen, speak up beforehand. If you don't want it to happen again, complain until it gets fixed.
