If you get an error Cl_flushentitypacket, you will need to lower your rate. Dial up users usually have a rate about 3000 or less unless they have a good connection. The way to change your rate is simple. In the console type "rate XXXX" (without the quotes, and XXXX is 3000 or whatever number you want.)

There is already a file called Config.cfg in your TFC directory. All you have to do is replace the lines at the bottom with the ones Ktulu has posted.

Ways to lower your lag? Well I find that throwing a little extra cheese into your tower, will make the mice run faster. Also, you might try waxing your modem. This seems to make it go faster.

Waxing your modem? What's a modem? Oh yeah...I had one of those once.
Now I have a shiny new network card.
The same network as TV5 i might add. Nothing between me and it but a dual OC3 lan. Jealous yet?

did you try linking 2 modems together? thats what i did and it doubles you connection speed. You just have to make sure your ISP doesn't care if you log on with 2 accounts.

My NIC beat up your modem! Muahahaha! The best way to lower your lag is to get cable! Muahahaha! Are you talking about system lag or server lag? What do you have in your tower? Give me some hardware profiles.

Well with a processor like P2 and 56k modem, you will always be laggier than others with AMD's and P4's on cable or dsl. Try out what Ktulu mentioned. Other than that, I don't think there is much you can do to lower your lag. Did you try dropping your FPS?
I run a 700 mhz P3 on cable with a great video card and I still get occasional server lag. But, it's usually only for the first few moments of the game. Until you get a better connection, you will always experience some lag. Sux I know, I too once was a dial-up modem owner. *GASP*
