Hey does anyone know of any programs that can convert ripped DVD files to mpeg's? I have ripping software and a burning program, but it wont accept the type of files ive got (most likely to prevent piracy)

thanx for the help guys and gals

Here is a good site with dvd ripping/encoding guides:
and it tells you what software you need to encode the dvd files.

http://www.dvdripguides.com/dvdmenu.php

The mpeg encoder is http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html

If you want easy(and DiVx format) get Dr. Divx at:

http://www.divx.com//

It costs money, but you can download a free trial there.

Well it depends, do you mean you are ripping from the dvd to your computer or do u have some *.vob files that u dont know what to do with.

If its a vob file then you need to get a converter (i use super dvd ripper its all i could find and it works so i just use that) Then you are lookin anywhere from a 3-4 hour vcd encode to a 10 pm to 7 am (yes i timed it) svcd encode time.

Ripping from the dvd though i have no clue because i cant do that so i hope its the first one.

Yes, turbo RVB OWNZ U!

Ok so what are you trying to do? because i got the RVB DVD and it was under 5 gig so i dont know. all i did was just make them a vcd and they ended up being able to fit onto a single cd. But thats besides the point. Can u specify this excess 400 megs you are speaking of?

its actually closer to 500. its about 496 megs. but i think i figurred out what the problem was. i was trying to put all of the episodes onto a dvd so i could watch them in my dvd player but my software would always say that i didnt have neough space on my disc. But yeah, i found out that my software was converting all of the quicktime files at the highest quality which is what took up all of the space. i eventually settled for a VCD but I had to sacrifice quality and some of the files i wanted. I have the Sonic MyDVD software if anyone knows how to change how files created outside of it are converted.

OK, i think i know what your doing. You are converting the avi files they put out onto a CD-R not a DVD-r? You see im thinkin 2 different things here thats where im confused. You CAN fit all of them onto a cd-r VCD quality and have a little bit of time left over. But what is this quicktime format? DVD players cannot read quicktime only mpeg...
