Methinks LOTR deserved just about all of em really

Am rather miffed that Keisha Castle-Hughes didn't win Best Actress and Johnny Depp didn't win Best Actor

Nope, your not alone, I hated LOTR too.

Well, not in that way, I am a huge fan of LOTR but after seeing two towers I became so bitter against Peter Jacksons "interpritation" of the books that I refused to see return of the king or to have anything else to do with the movies.

Ok, all emotion aside I am sure that it deserved to win many of the awards due to technical merit, and so on, but as a LOTR Fan I am still waiting for someone to do a movie based on the books instead of some dumbass dreaming up his own story lines that totally butcher the books.

LOTR ROTK was very good...though ive never read any of the books so i can't really judge on that merit. Though i do know the reason why LOTR swept. It was mainly due to the fact that during the first LOTR it should of won more oscars than it actually did though i agree 100% that TWO Towers shouldn't of won anything but techincal awards as it was very anti academy type movie plus Chicago was pretty good and Two Towers wouldn't of won anyway. I would of been dumb founded if it (LOTR RTOK) didn't win the technical awards (effects, costumes, editing, sound editing are all so good it just raises the bar for the next group) as well as the director award. Even if you hate the movies the way in which one man worked for over a decade to put them all together (though it might of been his conception but that is what filmmaking is all about)...worked to get a studio to finance them all together instead of just one film like Miramax wanted to do, and pretty much devoted a decade of his life to ONE SERIES OF MOVIES is just mind boggling and unprecedented in hollywood and that is the reason why LOTR cleaned house and rightfully so.

Now as far as Sean Penn goes everyone knew he was going to win. Oscars rarely go to comedy movies therefore that gets rid of Johnny Depp and Bill Murry though respected doesn't get that much respect. Sean Penn's performance in Mystic River is amazing so is Tim Robbins. Penn just portrays so much emotion, so much passion, so much desire to actually like his part and want his part in that film to stand out that if you have seen the movie it was a no brainer he was going to win. Only person who has been better actor (actress) in a film this year was Theron.

As far as Keisha Castle-Hughes goes she was against Theron and man if you seen Monster words cannot describe how amazing she is and what a transformation she has undertaken not only in her career (from film to film) but as an actress (from certain roles to certain roles) and the Academy LOVES that. Hughes was never going to win. She was to young and the academy rarely gives out awards to 11 year old girls (she is now 13 but was 11 when she filmed Whale Rider). Only exception to this rule is Anna Paquin(sp) for Piano but that was supporting actress not main actress. Academy tends to think that if your this young and get nominated then you will get nominated again in the future thus we will give it to someone a little older.

Anyway that is my two cents on Oscars. You don't have to take my word on how the Academy think in all of this, but due to me getting 22 out of 24 correctly i think i had my thumb on the Oscars pulse this year.

I dont read unless its car related. LOL So no downers from watching the rings movies.

The grammies/oscars are all political BS awards, I dont put any value to them. Personally the Peoples Choice Awards should mean the most to the Actors/Directors etc etc since its actually the audience that gives them thier award and not a bunch of dumb asses that dont know whats good.
