Here's a little tip that can help speed things up. There is a file in your TFC directory called custom.hpk. This file holds all of the custom spray paints that you've downloaded while you've been playing. If this file gets too large it can cause your connect time to servers to decrease dramatically. It has to procsss this file everytime the map changes or you join a server. When I first found out about this file, mine had grown to a whooping 23mbs!!! The only thing you need to do is delete it. I try to make it a habit to delete mine every couple of weeks.

I guess it dosen't take long. I just did a clean install last weekend and Killer just two days ago and mine was at 1.5 megs and killers today was only 612 bytes. I'm going to make this a bi-weekley event.
Now how about logging on from the Ville's web site and letting it run in the background . The button that lets you select not to remain on the web site does not remain as "default on", time to time. So a lot of times I run the site in the background. Does this effect ping? How about the Villes server does it put strain on it just idling away?

John, are you really talking about latency (ping), or are you just talking about the time it takes to get connected and get into a game.

Actually I wasnt talking about either, I just reposted the tip from Robert E Lee in the old forums. I also make a point of removing the file every now and again. I cannot say that I have seen an increase in performance when I remove it, but if I was to let it grow to say 57 mb I am sure that it would impact game performance as it adds more stuff to the file. |

Well this is what I added to my Autoexec.cfg
in the TFC folder cl_allowdownload "0" you
can also save time by adding cl_allowupload "0" the goodthing is you
don't download any logos. the bad thing is if
you need a file for that server to get on you
will be dropped.

The first thing I thought of when I read this post was: porno. No, not like that. I was horrified that I might have a secret stash of pornography on my computer that my mom might one day find out about. Thankfully, I could find no ways to open these files, so I am safe.
