It's like leap+bite for people who can't leap and bite. I hate having to look where I'm going, I flew much better without it, I hope they didn't change it because of newbs not being able to fly unless it was super easy. You cant even change direction in air and strafe anymore, it's all just straight in the direction you're looking. Bah, maybe if enough people complain they'll change it back, its still beta isnt it.

i like it!

well the lerk im gonna have to get used to. like flying a canonball but once you're used to it it's a great way to take down marines, certainly with focus.


catpacks,...... well i wasn't able to drop them but neither where the 3 other comms so i guess that's a bug.

grenade, works great with MT.

and lerk is even great without adren.


just did a test: you can easily fly from the top of triad, through marine base to maintenance without using any of your energy.

just fly high and then use glide. losing speed? dive and pull back up and your off for another ride.

Except you have to fly straight, no strafing. It's like flying a rocket of flight simulator instead of an agile flying creature the Lerk used to be.

I hate it, I turned back into a skulk after I had to fly the new "Flying for Newbs" Lerk for a while, I just use Focus and Celerity and Regenerate on a skulk, rush up and get my one hit kills over and over.

I had Catalists used on me in game as marine, so they do work, I was hauling ass with HA with it on.

You guys should play some combat maps too, they're bad ass, A nice place to try out evolution combos and really nail down your killing skills, you get rewarded upgrades for killing the other team.

In combat mode, does it seem like the aliens are more powerful than the marines, or have I just gotten lucky with the teams that I have gotten on for aliens?

YPAWOM, i know. but still i think that once you really get the hang of it, the lerk will be a good evolution to fly into a squad, kill one and get back out.


and i did play combat. it's great.

The teams seem pretty even in combat if you have balanced skill. Though it takes less I think to play marine in combat since they don't have to wait for commander to equip them with tons of good equipment, and The Welders.

I just had a 40 minute combat game where the damn marines were all Heavy Armor Heavy Machinegun Grenade launcher with Welders. 13 of them, and they stood in their base camping and turtling. Every time we get the comm chair to the red we were all dead from nade spam and HMG hoseing us, then they'd all weld it and be back to full health before we would respawn.

They never attacked our hive, they never left base, just sat and repaired and defended. Finally one of my teammates goaded them into attacking full force and the second they left their base a bunch of us ran in and took out their chair in less than 30 seconds. Lerks roaring, Onoses punding with focused horns and a few fades and a skulk or two. Almost everyone on both teams were level 10 at the end, that's how bad it was, the damn welder almost makes that game a stalemate every time, or assure the marines a win because the hive has to slowly regen and they can fix theirs in 2 seconds.

Anyways, onto the Lerk again. I wish they'd bring back the 1.04 lerk. Bite, Spikes, Umbra, Spores and old flying model. Though I do like the gliding, I could easily see them putting that in the old lerk flight model and have it work better. I miss flying around spiking and getting close enough to bite. Sitting high in teh rafters and shooting spikes at turrets and marines and structures below. Dodging around in the air around someone as you bite them and spike them to death, then at 3rd hive getting to use the ultimate amped up spores to melt them all to death.

Lerk used to be my favorite class until they wrecked it up alot in 2.0 by taking the bite, then made it worse in 3.0 by making him fly like a guided rocket, giving back the bite and taking away spikes alltogether. Now no alien has a decent ranged attack until higher levels, there is almost no incentive to evolve into anything higher until Onos because Redeem hardly works anymore so you lose your res if you go fade, who has nothing but slow claws until 3rd hive.

I've played alot of NS and CO maps on 3.0 and in NS many people stay skulk up until the end and then go Onos and do just as good or better than other alien types. Like I said, no real advantage anymore since they leveled out all alien abilities to be basically bite, lerks can fly but it's no different than a Skulk with leap or a Fade blinking anymore, and in that case I'd take either of them over the flying Donkey.

TV2 is now running NS 3 beta. I also check into the Skulk Hunting Grounds when there's a slot free.
