Make sure that the AGP Aperture Size (MB) - Default is 64. (I have 512 so I set mine at 256) if you notice anything strange then tone it down to 128.
I can play BF1942 Desert Combat on the map Urban Siege at 800x600x32 (high settings now with this set) on servers with 40 players at a stable 45fps(much higher on less occupied servers)
This is the amount of main memory that is allocated to the AGP device. Using this function the AGP card can process data from the main memory itself, instead of onboard memory. It is important to select the AGP Aperture Size wisely because too much will cause lack of memory for other operations and too little will give low graphic performance. The AGP aperture size should be set to half, or a quarter of your system memory. So, if you have 256MB system memory you should set your AGP aperture size to either 128MB or 64MB. _________________ http://www.nosmacktards.com |

No, it's AGP! I know this because I use a Radeon 7200 64 Meg card. You need to find this out for sure. Because if it is and you have it in a PCI slot instead of the AGP slot then there is your problem.

Now where is this setting? I have a 512 memory thing and I have never changed that setting. Sometimes I do get a really choppy picture like whena couple grenades go off. If it is default on my system should I change it to the 256 like you? _________________

I don't think it's possible to screw up and put a agp card into a pci slot. They do still make pci cards, less performance but cheaper in price. _________________ ********* *********

I used to have to change my settings all the time. I forgot how to do all that though. I was having problems with smoke in game. Whenever there was smoke my fps was dropping to 6. I bought a new vid card, 9800pro, and maxed all my settings. It runs at 99fps, was max in game, at all times. I set my max value down to 60fps since I don't see a difference over that anyways. Now I run at a constant 60 without any variance.
Long story short, I don't remember how to change settings but I will look into it and post. It's just been a while since I had to. _________________

If you have a few dollars(< $100), you can pick up a decent AGP ati or geforce card. Most of the older ones like the ati 9200 or gforce fx5600 can be had for $40 - $80.
check out pricewatch
What os are you running? I couldn't break 60fps with win2k, but can easily break 180 on tfc and 90 on dod with win xp and a radeon 8500 128M.
I can send you my configs if you want, one thing is to make sure you set developer 1 in your config and set your your monitor refresh at 100hz or higher and you can break the 100fps barrier(in tfc at least). not sure if this will help you with your current card though |

Yeah I can break 100fps in TFC but DOD I can't even break 30
I'm running WinXP Home
P4 1.8
512 megs of ram
and a crappy PCI card
I just need to break down and go and get a new video card . _________________ <eVa>Simpleman-V$=<RIP> |

Reboot your computer and hold down your Delete key until your Bios screen appears. Look for the AGP Aperture Setting. If the Delete key isn't the one that accesses the Bios then check your MB manual it's in there.
Reguardless if your MB is old or not, manufacturers update their Bios's everyday to keep up with todays technology. My motherboard is 3 years old and all I do is flash my bios when ever they release a new one and sometimes it makes a difference.

Once you get into your cmos settings, look for Advanced Chipset Settings _________________ ********* *********
