Hooray... I finally found the info to prove that I could possibly be in the us army... But Im not sure, requirements for being in the us army:
Between the ages of 17 and 34 - Im 16 but Im going to be trying out when Im 18
A U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien - nope, Im lost and confused
Healthy and in good physical condition - check thats easy enough but I gotta grow some more muscles
In good moral standing - Id say that I have good moral standing but maybe thats just me
the one part that I dont get, maybe someone can tell me what it means; Permanent Resident Alien... WiGFN does that mean? I think it means basically - Az told me this too I believe - Id need something like a green card to apply? If so then thats a good thing... Gotta pull up my marks for international student applications though :? if I want to get into a US school for something and then get a student card/greencard......... |

i do believe you ahve to live here for 5 years to naturalize, and be living in a permanent residence for half of that. ( if i'mc orrect)
or you coudl marry someone and only wait 3 years.
not sure if the military changes anything. and there will be a TEST about some history and whatnot i suppose _________________ |

Yes, you need a green card to get in the military if you are not a naturalized U.S. citizen. You do not need to be naturalized. Every once in awhile you will see a news story about hundreds of servicemembers getting their citizenship at a large ceremony. This is because they were all permanent resident aliens with green cards. Now, how do you go about this fantastic journey of wonder and merriment? I have no idea, sorry, but I've been slacking on my Dept. of the Interior policies. _________________ Under construction!!! |

I would say that there has to be some form of pre-entry program for high school students where as a civilian you could earn credits until you are old enough to legally join, maybe as a officer at that spud ?
As far as what Canada has too offer, talk to somebody at your school that will be something for you to investigate. Ask Azrael, he may know of some contacts ?

You will also need to get a U.S. Social Security Number. Or at least that is what a Canuck that is switching from the Canuckian Army to the U.S. Army is having to do, that I know. And Az is right. you have to get a Green Card. Call an Enlistment Recuiter in a State across the border from you and ask those questions. I would imagined that it's not the first time they have been ask those questions before. Also if you are still wanting to get your degree first, I would suggest you do ROTC or the Bachelor Degree Completion Program. The Military pays for your degree, in exchange for 8 years of service as an officer.

I am sure they would be willing to answer a fellow Canadian a few questions if asked nicely. |

I was planning on trying to get into a military college of some kind - I would like a state's one. I think its two months of being in a US college and then you can apply for a student card then a green card right after that ? Or a year or some such lenth of time. I gotta read throgh all those links now but Ill look into it. Im taking courses such as American History, and so forth in school so I believe that I could get a firm grasp on American History. Math is different - you guys are royal or imperial? Measurements but I dont know if the difference applies to the US army or not, wouldnt it be smarter to be on par with the rest of the world and understand what other foreign troops are saying?
Anyway, I have alot of studying to do. |

Does anyone know if they have an online version of the ASVAB? The Canadian Army does and I got stuff like General Infantry, some french special group - special forces I dont know but I dont know much french (i never paid any attention in school ) so bleh - engineer, explosives engineer, explosive ordinance disposal - I suppose if you mess up you wont feel anything .... There was about 8 or so more possible tasks/careers that I could do but Id like to see what the US army has to offer for me as well... But I guess I could travel to a NY recruiter - my uncle, someone who supports me joining the army, will take me if I have a plan on getting there. |

You can try these sites.
http://www.asvab.us/

Also I believe the US Military uses the Metrix System.
That would be cool if you could get into a Military Academy. I give anything to get into the Naval Academy. But my grads are not good enough to even think of it. The competion to get into one of those is pretty tight. Keep in mine the private schools like VMI, The Citadel and Texas A&M Corp Program. I think there is also a Military school in New Mexico, but I don' remember it's name. There is also I new one in Alabama or Mississippi or somewhere.

If you want to join one of the public US Military Academies then you have to go through the US Embassy in Canada.
Is Canada still part of the Commonwealth. You could join the UK, Australian or New Zealand Military, too. |

Like giz said, you could, uh, live in the united states for five years. Get to know the people and what you're defending (truth, justice, apple pie, fields of grain, etc). Learn some of the national jokes, like Arnold Schwarzeneggar being governor, Martha Stewart, Hollywood, people from New Jersey are bad drivers, etc. Learn how to break a bottle, how to punch someone without breaking fingers or leaving bruises, how to get the extra donut without paying in a cafe, etc. Then apply for US citizenship. Slap bang, instant blue card. |
