Why have a player of the month? Shouldn't we all be recognized for being great sports, and participating in the games we all love equally? Are you promoting the idea that we should only be concerned about stats and playing well, as opposed to just playing and having fun?
*I hate contests, I vote myself NOT Player of the Month

Actually, that is exactly what POTM is all about. It rewards individuals for being great sports and all around fun people to play with. It's just a big thank you from your friends. It has nothing to do with points or skill in any way. That's what stats are for.

Exactly. I may rename it to "Villun of the Month" to be a little more apropriate.
