Okay, before I start let me say that my mom recently got a new job at a local college teaching some ealy childhood stuff. She gets some bonuses - more pay (+$2000 per year onto her paycheque), two months off work, etc. The best one, however, is: she can choose to purchase a computer up to $5000 CND and the college will pay for it - she has to pay them back in 5 years without interest! Anywho, so Im going to design a kick ass custom PC thats about $2000 - $2500 CND, using http://www.ncix.com/pcbuilder/index.php?action=config&id=1167077&platformid=1001 as a base. Whats the best combo that you guys can come up with on there? I know JD and I made one up a couple of months back but Ive lost the config unfortunatly .

So? Whats your best config? Something powerful and stable thats stylish and upgradeable? (The type that I want).

where's the monitor? You figure if she's got 5 years to pay it off, you might as well get her a decent flat screen If she thinks that might be pushing it, just tell her that the improved viewability will make working at home alot easier on her eyes, thus helping to keep her eyeglass prescription where it's at! See, modern day medicine can help get you a new computer!!

What type of monitor is best? I know a flat screen - 17" - monitor is what she'd probably be happy with, is a ViewSonic good? They have them at my school but I dont know if they have good quality/worth the price... I know absolitly nothing about monitors BTW.

Given that it's only a few extra $$$ per month, rather than a big one-off payment - go for 22" or something really great like that...you are going for a $500+ graphics card, after all.

viewsonic is the best for the money...i have a 17 incher and it is fantastic. Plus the customer support is bloody fantastic. Something happened to mine i called them up and they said send it to us we will fix it for free take in account the warranty had gone out as well. They sent me back a monitor within 5 days of originally sending, but instead of sending mine back they gave me a brand new one.
