Okay, I'm wanting to build a new computer.
Here's what I need:

Pentium 4 with Hyper-Threading

High-end, but as low-budget as I can get.

Approx. $1K budget.

Excellent black, windowed, case.

Basically, what I want is a computer that I can play HL2 and Doom 3 on, but can also run (on a seperate occasion)multiple programs at once, such as Photoshop, Winamp, and IE quickly and with ease. And I want it to look good, because sometimes, it's the better way to show off.

P-4 3 Ghz (800) Cpu = $250-$300
Decent Mboard = $80.00-$125.00 (onboard sound and 10/100 NIC)
ATI 9600 Pro (128 meg) = $175.00 or so
512 Memory = $70.00-$80.00
200 gig Hardrive $175.00-$200.00 (sata)
Floppy $15.00
CD-Burner = $45.00
Case = Not sure which one you are looking at
Keyboard = $10.00
Mouse = $15.00
Speakers = $10.00-$300.00

You should be in budget depending on what you might want to cut back on.
Cut back on the drive and maybe get a gig of memory with the savings. You can also cut back on cpu speed and save a few bucks. Am I forgetting anything? Need a monitor?

Sounds good

I'm still using the SAME equipment that was built by myself, merf, danno and silverone back in 1999! I don't know if it's good or bad.

That sounds about right, but I would recommend getting a smaller HD and using that money to bump up to a gig of RAM, your going to use your RAM sooner then you would fill up 200GB's of HD space.

I agree. I have a 120 GB harddrive myself and have only used 30 GB of it so far. My wife and I share this computer too so it gets well used. It has also had 2 years to accumulate stuff. 200 GB is way to big.

This is where it gets opinionated. Any specific parts recommended? Monitors, video card, motherboard, etc.

I only have it set to use 130 GB's of it. Who else has Frank Sinatra, UFO (Silver's all time favorite band) and Frank Marino?
