I am trying to use ICS and be able to connect to steam. I can connect to everything, but when I try to get into a server, I get one bar and it tries to retry a few times and I click cancel and it says can't connect to server. Any ideas on getting this to work. I can connect to servers though the won version of tfc. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

Never heard of ICS but if you can't connect through steam itself try to download http://www.udpsoft.com/eye2/index.html and go through it. It's free. _________________

ICS stands Internet Connection Sharing, which is a part of Windows 98SE. I can ping the servers fine in steam's in game browser, but if when in that normal dialog of trying connect, it is stuck at trying to connect to server and I only get one bar. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. As far as I know, I do, but there aren't any configuration software for ICS, so I am not certain, WON version connects correctly though. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

Try adding this to your HL shortcut
+clientport 2700x
x= 6,7,8 or higher.
This lets multiple computers connect at the same time.
If you only want to play with one PC set it to 27006
If you have 2 PCs you want to play on set one to 27006 and the other to 27007.
Remember each PC must have seperate CD keys to do this. _________________

Thanks for the suggestion, but alas, that didn't help either. So far the only thing that has seemed to work is if I physically move the modem from the other computer onto this one, I can then play TFC through steam. Unfortunately I have to move the modem back so the phone can be used. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

Sorry
I suggest you get in touch with Steams support line, or set up a router instead of using Internet sharing. You could also look in Microsofts Knowledge Data Base for hints on Internet sharing.

Are you sharing the connection or is the other machine?
The server should have 2 NIC's.
Connect the one NIC on the server to a hub, along with the 2nd p.c.
The other NIC connects to the cable/dsl modem.
Maybe use a proxy software to open the port to steam/tfc.
It may be that, the port is blocked for the second machine somehow.
The router is the simplest way to go and not to expensive. Or get a switch and buy another ip from your provider for the second machine. _________________ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - |

I'm just going to give up on it and wait a few weeks until I can play again and when I want to play, just move the modem to this computer. I can't even register on teh steam forums. Also, I am using 56k at the moment, so a router wouldn't be much of a probability. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |
