Oh man, don't get an Orc! You will so regret that.
If you do, know this;
Yellow = Constant touch up.
Yellow fades very easily. You'll have to get it touched up quite often or it will look. . . not kew. The more you touch up, the more scar tissue develops. The more scar tissue, the less easily you'll take ink. I'm no expert but I do know that color tat's require much more upkeep than monotone versions. You definitely can't be lingering in the sun for too long.
I've come close a few times to getting one and always held back. Only you can make the decision. If you have to question getting it, you're probably not ready. _________________ Recipient of POTM award

I have 5 tattoos, I'll post pics of them when I get the chance. They're all dragons except for one, which is an indian handprint with Mom underneath.
None of my tattoos have any color (besides black, of course). The biggest one I have is on my leg, which goes from the top of my calf, and curves round to my achilles tendon. I would definitely stay away from light colored tattoos though, as the sun will play havoc with them. Of course, you should be absolutley positive you want what you're getting, and make sure you've seen the artwork of whoever's doing it. There's a lot of hacks out there, but there is also a lot of talent, just make sure you find the latter. If the artist you're going to doesn't have a book detailing his (or her) previous work, don't use em!! Good artists will always show you what they've done. When I got my dragon across my bicep I went to three different places before I found an artist I liked, and I'm pretty happy with what I got. _________________ Under construction!!! |

Yea potatos heard about the colored stuff - its colored because we couldnt use just one color we had to use a spectrum or something like that. Is it possible to get different shades of black? Thats what potato had in mind. Theres this really cool tatoo place near here. They have pics of what theye done on their windows and in binders and all that but its too much money right now - $250 - 500 for a tatoo? Wowie.

It's acutally tattoo potato you might want to spell it right if it's going to be a permenant part of you.
I actually almost became a tattoo artist before going for my Computer Animation degree, I'm still thinking about going out and doing it some time down the line.
Anyways....The yellow will last just as long as other colors if your tattoo artist is good, and if you take care of it and stay out of too much direct sunlight.
Make sure you check the place and artist out that you are going to get it done at and that it's a reputable clean place.
Tattoos should reflect who you are and what you like. Take your time and make sure your tattoo will be something that you can live with forever. Don't be limited to what a studio has on hand; Sometimes part of finding the perfect tattoo involves explaining your ideas to the tattooist, and/or bringing in reference materials. Discuss size, color, and placement.
Sometimes designs that work on paper may not work on your skin. Also give the placement of your tattoo a lot of thought. Most people have a gut feeling about where they would like to have their tattoos placed. Choosing where your tattoo is placed should not necessarily be based on fear of how much it might, or might not hurt. Every person's body reacts differently, so the sensation will vary from person to person.
Size is another issue. Starting small is not always best. As tattoos age they spread a little, so get the tattoo the size that it will look the best over time. Discuss these, and all other aspects of your tattoo with your tattooist. They can share their experience with you.
Ask your tattooist to show you sterilization equipment. Watch them take your needles and tubes out of sterilization pouches with indicators on them. Watch them put together their machines. Don't assume anything when your health is on the line.
An autoclave is a sterilizer which uses heat and pressure to kill any microbes and/or pathogens on equipment. If a tattoo shop doesn't have one, leave.
Don't go to tattoo parlors that give out cupons or just popped up in the last 6 months. Alot of places have been around for 50 years or more and have some the worlds best tattooists working at them.
You could also go to a tattoo convention and meet up with a top tattoo artist whos style you like and get it done by them there.
DON'T get drunk before getting tattooed, it will make you bleed more so the ink won't take as well, and the good parlors won't tattoo you if you are drunk.
Good tattoos should have clean, even lines and smooth, solid colors. Always look at photographs of a tattooist work before getting tattooed. Any qualified tattooist will have a portfolio showcasing what they can do for you.
If you want them to do a custom design like your Orc (I personally wounldn't do that, but it's your skin, if it really means something to you and you want it there forever go ahead) Don't be afraid to voice your ideas. However, you should listen to there suggestions. This is what they do for a living and they should have a good idea of what works and what doesn't.
You should never "price shop". Tattoo prices are based on quality as well as time and prices vary from artist to artist. This is not a trade where there are fixed prices. Look at portfolios showcasing examples of tattoos by the tattooist that will be working on you. Look at line quality and smoothness of blends of color. These photos are the best way to determine if a tattooist is worth what you pay them or is capable of the style you seek. Don't gamble with your skin. A cheap tattoo now, may cost you hundreds of dollars to fix later or even worse, may cost you your health.

Yes good advice. Theres an old parlor around here - isnt there usually one in the army too? Or atleast potato heard of one. Potato may or may not go for the orc tattoo, after all it depends on what they would have at each place. If they have something better then kick ass if not then maybe. Either way potato will wait for a year - his arms are growing alot bc of the working out that hes doing.

I gotta too when I got my divorce about 4 years ago and then added to it another year later. toos are very cool. I spent a long time figuring out what I wanted to get and actually created the image that I had put on my body. truth is, I would wear my own art permanently but never a roadhouse skull or rose, none of that cliche stuff. they have to mean something and you really have to think about what it means to get a permanent piece of art on your skin.
in some cultures it means that you have reached a certain stage in life (crossed the bridge from childhood into adulthood). It has been used as a badge of one's beliefs etc etc.
but regardless of why one gets a too (lets face it most people have them these days anyway), you should spend some time pondering it and don't go out , get enibriated and then just pick the first thing on the parlor wall that jumps out at you. besides tattoo artists frown on drunk subjects. it tends to make the blood thinner and thats not good when you are penetrating the epidermis a couple hundred times a minute with a small ink covered needle.
thats right it is painful regardless of what some people say. My too is in the center of my back, a place I thought would be the least sensitive to the needle. I was right except when the artist did the part right over my spine... that was not fun. once you get the too done, you have to baby it with lotion as it heals. It kinda felt like a sunburn right after I got it done and then as it healed it began to itch like CRAZY. **IMPORTANT NOTE you don't want to scratch it while it heals, it could damage the ink...
anyway, just thought I'd put my 100 cents worth in and maybe I will get a pic of it for you. Its kinda hard to get without help since its on my back, but I'll try.
