I am looking to get myself a Christmas gift of a digital camera. I am looking mid to high end ($500-$1200) and I would love opinons on what and all that as well as good web sites to look at.

The camera would be used for outdoor photography as well as high speed (sports etc).

HHHHHMMMmm I have $199 Kodak. Which works great for me, but will probably be under what you need. Otherwise I don't know. I would assume the better known manuf. like Sony, Panasonic, etc. Would be best, but more expensive. Kodak offers a photo printer that rocks though. So if you want to print your stuff out onsite then that would be a good idea.

We just went through a buy and return splurge. we tried all the name brands except SONY. So far the new Minolta has won out, link above.

There is a camera I did not get a chance to try which I really wanted to.

Try this link.

All I know about digital cameras is go for an actual camera company's digital ones. DONT go for a HP or ompaq or whatever else camera - they all suck and lack a bunch of features. If you want something good - that works good in almost any condition - look at something like kodiac (as mentioned above) or some other camera company company.

I purchased my camera right before my son was born. I had a Sony camcorder that took digital still pics as well. I bought another Sony but just the digital cam so I could use the memory sticks. The pictures it takes are nothing short of incredible. It is a 4.1 megapixel with tons of features on it. I would recommend looking at Sony if you have the money.

i have the sony dsc-s85 4.1 meg and it works great lots of features, but is designed like a traditional camera , no putting it in your shirt pocket. canon also makes a good product. like brn said if you have a pda or camcorder u might want to look at cameras with the same mem cards makes life easier and interchangeable...good luck

I have a Nikon Coolpix 5700 and love it. 5 megapixel, and you can put some custom lenses on it also. Plus no memory sticks. YUK

I have that same camera. The main reason I got it was because it looked and felt like a regular camera. All the rest I looked at were small, I couldn't hold the damn things.
