well i'm no scientist but arnt the neutrons in the nucleus(sp) of the atom, and the electrons orbit the nucleus? _________________

Potato heard about another planet - some blue one - thats just outside pluto or something that comes back every like 100 years (or something) into our galaxy. I think the two diagrams look the same - the atom gifs - because its a standard rep of what an atom looks like.
Maybe there wasn't any "god" involved? Maybe it was all just a freak accident .

Verman's right some of our outer planets have different orbits that aren't on a flat plane. ROOF! I'm starting to think all that smoke is affecting your brain. _________________

I read something that the planets may have formed from dust particles collecting. When stars form, there is a flat ring of matter and stuff that gets pulled into the star until it reaches a state of equilibrium then the stuff left over is what becomes the planets. They clear out spaces and form one big piece. Maybe that is why they are on a flat plane because that's where they orginate. If Pluto came from somewhere else, then it does not count for that theory. _________________

Atoms are strange things compared to the rest of the laws of the universe. The operate on seemingly different laws. I was watching a program just last night about why atoms and string theory work in crazy ways compared to everything else larger than them. It was hard to concieve one theory required 26 different dimensions to exsist.
Anyone who says they can contemplate quantum mechanics without becoming dizzy has not understood the concept in the least
~ Niels Bohr
I think the Solar system general flatness is like stevo said everything, dust and smaller particles, forming a disc/ring around the gathering sun and eventually becoming planets. The heavier solid materials sunk closest to the sun creating the 4 solid planets inside the asteroid belt. The lighter gasses stayed at the "top" and formed into the gas giants of the outer reaches. And Pluto was probably an Ice comet that got drawn into orbit of our sun.
Our system seems to be the rule throughout the universe, many other solar systems behave in the same way, and even Galaxies form disk shapes around their supermassive blackhole centers. _________________ World of Warcraft:
