There's ashes and soot on the ground. The sunlight (when it is visible) is a martian reddish-orange tint. Work was closed today. I've got friends and co-worker who live in the main fire zones, and I have no clue as to their wherabouts or status. There's a taste of smoke in every breath I take.
Thankfully I'm ~5 miles from a fireline, but it is a strange day here is SoCal. Hopefully it can be controlled soon.

I won't even comment on that one.

I hope you guys are ok out there. I don't even want to imagine having to go thru that.

Just got an email from a friend whose house was missed by 2 blocks.
Still a lot going on out there, very smoky everywhere. Highways eeriely quiet. Many stores closed. Didn't see much sun today, mostly tinted red-brown or not visible at all. From what I remember, its kind of like a lesser version of what folks went thru the Mt St. Helens volcano in 1980. All local channels are non-stop fire info.
Anyone hear from Roofcutter & Family? I thought he lived somewhere in the SD area. Same thing with Optik.

NFL game moved to Arz, but many people not in the mood for football. Schools to be closed again tomorrow.

Well, unless it turns out to be a bright, hot woman. Then I would suggest staying as long as possible. Of course I'd settle for just hot, I mean really, bright would just be considered icing on the cake, or maybe a liability, depending on your country of origin, or religious views, or.....ummmm.....well... I'll just stop typing now.

Yeah, the past 2 days was not a good time to be in San Diego. I personally was never close enough to be in its path, but I know many who were and many who weren't so lucky. The count was only 2 as of Saturday night, but now its 5. Thats the number of friends of mine that have completely lost thier homes...and the amazing part is they're spread out about 30 miles apart. My dad also had a few friends who lived in Scripps Ranch who weren't so lucky.

Both of my sisters & my aunt had to evacuate, but the fire fortunately never got closer than a mile from their houses, so that was good.(about the only good news aside from a wind-free Sunday!)

If you want to see a shocking page, check this out.
http://www.kfmb.com/topstory19353.html

and the facts if you're curious.

250-300,000 acres burned(3 SD fires not connected[yet])
881 structures burned
13 confirmed deaths (possibly 12 to 24 more)

It's Mars outside here in SoCal.
The sun can be seen with the naked eye as a bright orange ball; visibility is <1/4 mile in smoke, and its taste is everywhere.....

Yeah there is no doubt that I witnessed the most amazing sunset that i've ever seen today, but it meant nothing because these damn fires are nowhere near getting contained. Completely out of control and heading for the mountains/forests...over 1,000 homes burned down.

sigh

They wern't kidding when they said if you live in san diego you either know someone who was burned out or know someone who does.

It was cool looking at the sun spots through the thick smoke, to high of a price though for a filter!

So many have lost homes and business and the worst, some have lost their lives.

Now it is rumored that there was money and political involvement that delayed a stronger response???? I hope heads roll if that is true.
My neighbors house would not of burned down if he had more than a garden hose to fight it. If we had just 3 more firefighters here it would of been a 300 percent increase!

If we would of evacuated, my other neighbors and I would/ could of lost our homes too.

I guess its just a reminder you can believe that the goverment will protect you but that does not make it so.

I'm not knocking the men who fight fires. They are brave and die for what they do. Its just such a let down if the management dropped the ball on this one.

Roof,
Glad to hear you & yours are OK.
A friend of mine in Scripps Ranch was <2 bloxcks from the fire line. My bosses house had flames jump his house but get the one 3 doors down. Both spent a night or two evacuated, returned to finding everything fine, just very dirty.
What part of the area do you live?

If it turns out that politics played a part in this (read Gov) someone needs to get cooked themselves.

I'm in lakeside. The fire burned right up behind me. due to a odd quirk in the wind the fire was blown back as it came down the hill giving us a chance to hose and rake it out... quite a sight I dont want to see again.
My neighbor who had a house on the hill was not so lucky his is gone
