----------^^^^^---------- Azrael sorry for giving a shit, guess we should tell those Vietnam vets to shut the hell up about how they came home to a country that ignored them (sarcasm). My intent is not to "splatter" them all over the national news, but at least say more than " 2 soldiers died today....A new investigation shows Bush exaggerated the threat of WMD blah blah blah. I don't think the families would feel disrespect at all, the few local stories that have been on the news, the family was more than happy to go on T.V. and show how proud they were that their son/daughter was able to serve their country. And even after their son/daughter made the ultimate sacrifice they still stood behind their country.

You misunderstand. I'm saying that they probably didn't give a shit whether anyone else thought their mission was justified or not. I know I don't care whether or not anyone else thinks what I did over there was the "right" thing to do. I know what I did was right. I honestly don't see how you got the idea that I think no one should give a shit about the vets. Maybe if you had taken more than two seconds to read my post, you would've seen that I was simply responding to the original topic of the post, which was how I thought it best to honor those that died. I actually agreed with you when you were complaining of political spin, which was my reason for not wanting people's names and faces put on TV.

I am kind of against plastering soldiers that died, on TV, partly due to the likely hood of bias reporting. I prefer written stories, something that would be appropiate to talk about at ones wake. Such as their career in school and some of the deeds they have done, plus their military career. I PMed a link to Vic from another forum community I belong to. Many threads get posted about fallen heros and even a few about those that got injured(which get even more overlooked). Even some of the troops over there right now, will drop by and post to let us know whats going on. Which is really cool.

I am sorry but most people in the world forget that there are hundreds of people who can stop any law or war that the president starts. For clarification here is a partial list of people:

House of Representatives Membership
435 Members
4 Delegates
1 Resident Commissioner

Senate Membership
100 Senators
(Vice President votes in case of a tie)

Supreme Court Membership
9 Justices

I think that there are quite a few people listed there, and all, except for supreme court, elected by people throughout the country. Do you really think that Bush can keep all those people from speaking/acting/coordinating against him? Man, you have more respect for Bush's abilites than most people in his own party do.

If you want to call him someone that was not "legally" elected, then I suggest you look into how the "President of the United States" has been elected for a long time.

Oh, you say that the election process is not "democratic"? get a life, we live in a representative republic. With as many issues that the US has to deal with on a daily basis, you would be voting on this 100 hours a day and still not get all decisions done. Read about representative republic in your government class. Also read about how Gore tried to stop military absentee votes from being counted in flordia for the 2000 election.

Want to start on the "recent" attacks on out country? (I seem to remember friends of mine attacked on a US ship in Oman) Look into when Osama began his preperations. He started many years BEFORE your beloved president Clinton left office. Wierd, I thought that Osama would have loved Clinton and the democratic party, or does he just not like republicans? It is a more deeply root hatred than who is ruling our country. It is based more on the image that the US projects and is given by the media, ours and theirs. Do you really think that they care what is happening half way across the world? or that they really think that we will leave them alone after they attack us? They see the US, through the media and television shows, as an attack on their way of life.

Last statement - support our current government and if you don't like it - change it though the system - don't complain about it to me or any where where I can read it.

I think that is enough rant for now.

I think Az and shock have the whole thing in perspective. I agree with the whole "its our job and we dont give a shit what the world thinks we're going to do it anyways cuz its out job" stuff that Az said. Splattering the faces of those who have been killed on tv is bad too though. Rather then just having it so that their family can mourn in peace they have to walk down the street and have their neighbour 8 houses down the street say that their sory for their loss when they dont even know the person. I agree with shock in that bush didn't just decide one day "IM GOING TO WAR WITH IRAQ!" and send the troops off. It was a democratic process - unlike some people think (but I suppose those people think that aliens run our government as well and that the states owns canada and we all live in igloos up here ) - and there were votes for yay or nay to. More yays then nays = ok lets go to war.

And doesnt the sennate or the supreme court have the power to recall the troops? Why haven't they then? I wouldn't but they easily could if the entire government was against the war in iraq.

The President has the power to send troops without Congress approval. It is Congress that declares war. Anyways, putting the soldiers all over TV might make family members, friends, etc upset.

And to the people that feel it necessary to rip Bush every chance they get, keep in mind, Clinton had done the very same thing Bush has, nation building. It's been done about 10 times post-WWII, 2 of those being Bush, 4 of them being Clinton. And to add, Clinton had the most unsuccessul ones, while Iraq is actually going very well contrary to popular belief. I find it sad how people can turn an honoring dead soldiers thread into a bash Bush thread.

1100 college students commit suicide a year. How many US soldiers have died in the past 10 years? It seems it is more dangerous going to college at home in the US than it is serving in the US military. All deaths are a tragedy, but maybe we should start focusing on problems closer to home.
