Very excellent! Sarge you have every right to be worried for your son, but it is also his right to choose his destiny and to be a man. He will thank you later in time if you let he choose his path. Whats on going on in the world IS the main reason why I am joining up.

I also plan on joining Air Force either through ROTC in college, or just enlisted. How old is your son Stutter?

My Dad was in the Air Force.

He enjoyed it greatly.

Yes, yes join the Air Force, just not the Army for gods sake, and by the way, ROTC is a fantastic way to go, joining as an officer greatly increases your pay and severely lowers your responsibility and risk.

I served in the Air Force four years as a Aerospace Propulsion Specialist (Jet Engine Mechanic). It was a great time in my life. I served during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. As far as training and taking care of their own the Air Force is the way to go.
When I got out I got a 40K job right away. I have a sister with a master's degree who can't find a job at all. The training is great if you choose a job with outside applications. Not much need for Infantry and Demolitions in the "real" world.
However I was one of the first in last out bunch. See before any Marines or Army can be flown into a "hot" area. The squadron I was part of, the 615th Air Mobility Squadron went in and prepared to recieve the planes. We were armed to the gills and ready to go anywhere. Remember the Marines and the Army can't go anywhere to fight unless we take 'em there. Hope this helps.

Hehe! Wax on! Wax off! Really Sarge is just having that paternal instinct to do the best for his son, which is really cool. But I can't think of any better way for his son to obtain real world skills and confidence than to join the military. There are a lot of parents out there though that have friends that tell them that the recruiter will lie to them and that the military will treat their kid poorly and bla bla bla bla bla. So then the parent while holding little Timmy's hand wiping her son's butt for him tell the weaselly recruiter to be off and not come back. These kids have no chance of every becoming a real man with the socials skills and since of responsibility that is required for a human being to succeed in the real world. And quite frankly more of our troops die in Boot Camp or live fire training excerises then in combat. I wish I was in the mind set to have joined the military when I was 17/18. But back then I was an Anarchist brat who hated the world and didn't think about my future in long terms. ANd your right JEHU when you get out, be ex-military helps you gets jobs. There is deffiantlly a bias hiring practise when you have an ex-military doing the hiring and an ex-military looking for a job. Its like a national fraternity, but stronger.

I don't know which branch is the best. I hear that the Air Force is easier, but my Dad was in the Navy in Vietnam, so I was going to choose that butI didn't want to be stuck on a ship for months on end for several years. So I figured the Marine Corps. can give the best of both worlds. Also Sarge if you can afford to send your kid to college then get him into ROTC program. Being an Officer is way better. Where as for me I will be enlisting and working in my spare time to finish my Bachelors which will be hard.

Thanks all for your thoughts and comments it is appriciated. By the way my son has been playing here off and on as Cpt. Caveman mainly DoD and occasionally TFC "like father like son Tee Hee Hee".

I have offered to pay for collage, he is very bright he graduated from high school 6 months early. Says he's just a little burnt out on school, which I can't blame him for that, said he could always attend school after his service. He has done alot of research such as talking to people in the different branches some who are in now and some that have completed there service. He is smart enough not to go 100% by the recruirters opinoin. What ever he decides I will back him 110%, I just want to be sure he has looked at all his options.
