Since I upgraded to Steam my echoes have stopped showing on the screen. I am not sure what you call them, but I think you get the idea. It is the text that shows up in the upper left hand corner of the screen that counts down to the detonation of your detpack, displays a message when you place a detpack, build an SG, etc. Anybody know how to make it display?

They don't work well, the closest thing to a workaround at this point is putting developer 1 in your config.

Is there a special place to put it? or any special phrasing?
I put "developer 1" in usercfg.cfg and that doesnt seem to do anything.

it isn't usercfg.cfg it is userconfig.cfg, if that doesn't work you have to enter it in the console everytime you join a server.

I've just been putting everything in my normal config and ignoring the userconfig.cfg that they recommend. Does anybody know why they tell you to use the userconfig?

I miss-typed...i am using userconfg.cfg...or whatever was recomended....i cant spell

I'm not sure why they went this way with the seperate cfg....its interesting to me...because i had always put all my scripts in a seperate .cfg file and i executed it in the last line of the std .cfg file. my thought was to keep the clutter out of the .cfg file. who knows what valve was thinkin....

THe top of the config.cfg file has a comment that says when you change items from the menus that it rewrites that file. This way your custom items won't potentially get overwritten.

It doesn't matter, because I always change mine to read only after I edit them.

They probably did the separate configs to keep all the custom things separate from the game-generated stuff. Is there a line in config.cfg that execs the userconfig.cfg?
