After many attempts at trying to get steam installed, I visited several steam FAQ sites to see if anyone was having the same trouble as me. I can get steam installed without a problem, but when I try to launch it steam stalls for a minute and then pops up with a generic windows error-- Steam has encountered a problem, we're sorry for the inconvience.
To my disbelief, several people had the exact same problem, but no one had a solution. Finally I came across one guy who ran a virus check and found a virus which would supposedly hinder several programs from starting.
So, I got the AVG anti-virus scanner and ran a test. Sure enough, it found over 400 files infected with a Win32/Parite virus. Unfortunately, AVG could not disinfect my system as in the case of the other victim. I'm still screwed.
Does anyone know anything about the Win32/Parite virus or anything similar? Any known sources where I would have picked the virus up? Any way to get rid of it besides a wipeout of my system? _________________
