thought i would put this here as nobody reads the ns forum.
this is from the ns website:
[ 09/16/03 ]:: Natural Selection: Combat announced
The NS Team is starting to explore new gameplay modes for NS, especially ones to work with small numbers of inexperienced players. So it's our pleasure to announce that we're starting development on "Natural Selection: Combat"!
Natural Selection: Combat is a fast and furious alternate NS gameplay mode, where waves of marines and aliens fight each other in a short timed game. Players are rewarded for kills by gaining access to better equipment, upgrades, abilities or lifeforms. A team wins if it has a higher combined level when the time elapses, or manages to kill the entire team at once. This gameplay mode should excel with small numbers of players, even ones with no experience with NS' commander mode, tech tree or resource model. The team is just starting development on this mode, and we hope to include it in NS v2.1 _________________ PROUD TO BE A MEMBER OF =US-V= & VILLE $UPPORTER |

I still ready the NS forums here, though it does little good since the NS players now post in he clan-twhs.com or smkclan.com forums, or not at all anymore and as a result there is little new to read.
As for NS combat, I am a bit sceptical. Combat is for the rambos, where as the normal version is for teams. Unfortunately you will get both mixing and fighting. One team will destroy the other (Most likely the Normal ns players winning) and the other team will cry about cheating. Then the combat players will play normal NS, and since Combat does not need nearly as much team work from what it sounds like, the normal players will treat them like noobs, even though they are using vaild tactics for Combat. _________________ http://www.barbertonrhps.com - The offical Website for Barberton's West Theater Rocky Horror Picture Show in Ohio

Pshaw, that's how I played NS as aliens anyways.
Sounds like a blast to me, then you don't have to depend so heavily on damned teammates who get ganked every two seconds and you end up having to do it yourself anyway.
The people who play that will likely come into regular NS and stomp the competition when it comes down to fighting the other team having played only games that require you to gain combat skill to win instead of juicing the resources.
Woe to ye who calls the 60-2 kill to death ratio skulk a Newb...that skulk would rip you and your whole team a new one, and have plenty of time to chow down on your buildings while you all try to respawn and run back and get whupped again by his awesome combat skills. _________________ World of Warcraft:

Is this some sort of CS-style play for NS? |

Kinda, but you keep respawning when you die like a deathmatch, instead of sitting in spectate for 5 minutes while some dorky teammate camps out. The longer you live and kill stuff the more upgrades you get. The way to win is if you kill everyone on the other team at once. _________________ World of Warcraft:
