Ok, so my system has been running fine now ever since I got everything loaded weeks ago. Now I am having trouble running any HL mod game. It begins to make this godawful clicky noise whenever I start up TFC or DoD, and when I get in game, it's like the soundcard is is having trouble keeping up, it clicks like it's skipping, but all my sounds are delayed. If I try to prime a nade, it beeps still, but the beeps take around 8 seconds to finish.
Here are my system spec, if anyone has any ideas.
mobo = FIC 1st mainboard
CPU = AMD Athlon 3000+
RAM = 512Mb DDR DRAM
VidCard = XFX GeForce FX 5600 256Mb
Soundcard = Soundblaster Audigy Gamer
OS = Windows XP
Master HDD = Samsung SV8004H
Slave HDD = WDC WD800JB-00ETA0
If anyone needs more info, let me know. I'm kind of hoping it's just software, as anything else would cost me money. _________________ Under construction!!! |

Is the FIC motherboard using a VIA chipset? If so you might want to try to update the 4 in 1s. Info on hte chipset would be nice, the SB live(not sure if the audigy has the same problem) has had some incompatibilities with certain hardware configs and other programs. _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Sorry about that, yes, it is using a VIA chipset. The VIA KT400 is the North Bridge, and the VIA VT8235 as the South Bridge (Not too sure what that means, but there you go).
I tried to dl the drivers for the 4 in 1, but my connection was actively refused when I tried to go to the ftp site for fic. so I have no idea.
I also noticed that it doesn't just make the clicks during HL, it's also when I'm just surfing the net, or when my messenger makes a noise. It also does it when I play music, but it's way less noticeable.
I have an extra audigy, so I'm gonna switch it out and see what happens.
**edit: I switched out sound cards, and the exact same thing happened, so I'm pretty sure it's not that. This is so annoying in nature that I can't even play!! _________________ Under construction!!! |

I dont get this
Your using a Samsung HD with 5400 RPM, 2 MB cache and ATA100 interface when you have a beautiful Western Digital as ur SLAVE (WTF?) with specs of 7200 RPM, 8 MB cache and ATA133 interface?
Western Digital > Samsung
Switch them around plz  _________________

Ihmm, I was pretty sure the Samsung was 7200 as well, but you're still right, the Western Digital is still better. I've just been lazy with going from the old to the new HDD is all. It's a slow process for me. _________________ Under construction!!! |

i hate to rag on your new system...
i have never had ANY luck with FIC mobo's.....too many problems to list....all were solved with a ABIT or ASUS mobo...honestly.
I would also make sure your mobo bios is current...many need to be flashed even though its brand new....I had a similar issue with one of my beloved ABIT boards.
while you are updating make sure you audio drivers are current too. _________________

OK, So I need to get off my ass and switch my HDD over to my new one. Since my new one didn't come with any software to aid me in this pursuit, does anyone know of a program that would help me in this endeavor? _________________ Under construction!!! |

Ghost will work great. It's made by Symantec. I have it if you need it just holler. _________________

If it was me....I would start a new clean install on the new drive.
everything is so smooth and quick on a fresh install.
make your old drive the slave and move over the files u need as required.
yesh theres a ton of reinstalling apps...but the benefits outweigh the work. _________________
