I did not want to form an opinion before I tried it.
I installed it.... it froze in the middle of the installation. Then I tried it, found that DoD seems not installed (though I asked for it), and it freeze during the download of the components.
It seems to have some problems with my firewall too.
Why release something that affects millions of gamers, if you are not ready to handle it... _________________ PJ --- ancient IDIOT with a rusty CROWBAR....

I like this quote from PlanetHalfLife.
"It's going the way of the Titanic... All hyped up to be something great, and then it hit an iceburg and sank" |

How on earth do you propose a small company like valve come up with the resources to provide a half million users with that kind of bandwith? All doing this with money from a game released 3 years ago. Once the B/W drain is gone the network will run fime, it ran great for months in beta testing. _________________ All comments are not nessasary those of the author so should not be taken as so.

I have only had two real problems with steam so far(one of them I caused on my own)
1) content didn't transfer until later or something.
2) slow dl speeds because of being on 56k.
other gripe, the chess won't allow me to use en passant.
Besides that I have had no real problems with it besides for my own impatience(still dling tfc update and keep getting knocked off the phone(stupid 56k)) _________________ I need to make a sig, but I don't have the time. Maybe I will eventually. |

I tried to connect to a DOD server. Why does it want to download an additional 350mb? I've already got it, wasn't it supposed to copy it over? _________________

The installation and download process just takes a lot of patience. I've been downloading DOD off-and-on for the past 30 hours or so. And I'm on a university connection. The content providers are simply swamped with thousands of users downloading 2 CDs worth of content. Yesterday afternoon, I heard they were up to Steam_id 50,000.

This is from counter-hack. They have a fairly nice Steam FAQ.
If you are connected through a router or firewall, you need to be sure the Steam ports are open, so Steam can properly communicate with the content and auth servers. Heres what you need to open up:
UDP 1200
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27030 to 27039 inclusive _________________ ctnstone.com |

It's telling me I can play DOD in 231 minutes and 5 seconds. I still don't understand why it is downloading the entire mod again. During the install it said it was going to copy it from the existing folder. _________________

Because WON no longer exists as a company and they will need it for HL2. _________________ Usually my sig goes here, but who the hell needs one anyways. |

I propose they don't publish software or, excuse me, "content
delivery systems" that don't work. That helps the profits alot.
