That's way better, but Steam still sucks IMO.

I still say that unless Valve is forking over the fat pipes on their end,
it doesn't matter what system you have.

I'll try to get steam tonight (still at work right now), but from what I read
this is not happening...

The problem is everyone is trying to update at the busiest time. I got it last night at around 1 am and everything ran smoothly and it runs perfectly. My suggestion is to either wait until late night/early morning or wait a few days until the dust settles. Either way, you will be quite surprised at the overall improvement in ALL hl mods.

The main reasons I'm not going to get it is:

a) The download is way too big.

b) The LAN validation sucks.

What could possibly be improved? Did they update the engine in some way?

Probably did improve the engine. Valve has been releasing beta hlds updates for the last few months. I know tv1 and tv4 has gone through about 5 beta hlds updates since may around the same time dod 1.0 was released. Been reading that the new hlds for steam should have some optimizations.. Not sure though until we update the servers to steam.

Things I noticed in beta testing were:

-Clearer graphics and sound.
-No sound loss. Ever. I atl-tab and alt-rsc lots and had no sound loss. I like this cause I run HL windowed for this reason. Running fullscreen was nice.
-They have improved server filters, information and added a buddy list. No more HLSW for me.
-Small things like in the past if you would change video settings while in game your client would shutdown and resart but stop at the console screen. Now it fully reconnects to the server.

I'm with Mul. Once people get it and see it working I dont think there will be so many complaints.

DK Sierra has nothing to do with this.....

its filters sux. It doesnt have anything for custom mods, custom plugins ppl run, auto password like ASE. Ill stick to ASE. The only thing ASE doesnt have is the chat feature. Yes it does, but its kinda crappy. I still stand where I was, its a waste of a download for me.
