I have a regular casio calculator also, although it costed more like 20$, I never learned how to use a construction master, which is probably a good thing. If the thing broke and you had to use a regular calculator you would have no idea what your doing.

As far as your math question....i have no idea. I went through a 4 year apprenticeship through the union, with 14 weeks of in class training and that formula never came up. I even looked through my formula book for figuring out square and cubic feet of all the diff geometric figures and didn't come across it. Thats not saying too much, because I have learned some pretty neat formulas on the job for figuring arc's, arches, frustrums and such but never ran across that one.

Shaft, I log on the Tauton Press website alot, They produce mags like Fine Homebuilding and Fine Woodworking among others. I was just curious if anyone here did woodworking. Besides alot of times I'll post a question there and it doesn't get answered or I forget I posted a question and never check back for the answer

Roof, let me know what your test is about, I would love to try and stump my field super he thinks he's the shit.

If any of you guys have a dovetail jig for a router, which do you have and how do you like it. I have no idea which one to buy, if you guys can keep a secret I want to dovetail my base moulding in my house @ the outside corners, because I have never seen that before and think it will look neat. I plan on using a 1 x 6 for the baseboard although it will be quite expensive if I wanna use cherry or any hardwood for that matter.

I don't have any tools of my own, but when I lived with my father he and I build like crazy. A few houses, garages, funiture etc. back to the topic, I used a regular hand saw to do some dove tails on a nice mahogany box. It is mahogany with a teak inlay for the top and bottom with internal hinges. Real sauve.
