Favorite Authors/Books

Like Frag, Irishman's Good Earth post got me thinking. I was just wondering what you guys read for entertainment. I'm a very heavy reader because my job requires me to be on a bus 3 hrs a day. My favorite author right now is Chuck Palahnuik who wrote Fight Club (the same that was made into the movie). His books are incredible and I recommend Fight Club and another one called Survivor. My other favorite book is GeeK Love by Katherine Dunn and this is one of the best but strangest books I have ever read.If anybody has read Geek Love let me know what you thought of it. I couldn't put these books down.

Well, I read Hatchet quite a while ago, and I still really like that one, but only if Brian's Winter is read after it. Also, a book that has stuck with me since I read it, 1984. Just amazing. A big fan of the Dragonlance series, some manga, and misc. books (basically anything that grabs my attention), like I recently purchased a book called "The Ultimate Martial Arts Book". Not too bad.

Yeah, um, it's late, and I've got some things on my mind, so that's all I can come up with for the moment.

Have you read Chuck Palahnuik's Choke its just as good as fight club and even stranger. i would hily reconmend that u check it out if u havnt already even though it is very "R" rated lolz

I enjoy Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series and the few Conan books he wrote. I am also reading through Terry Gookind's Sword of Truth series(very excellent). The First American by H.W. Brands really got me started on reading and self learning. So now I scour all the Half-Price Book stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I have several books writen in the early 1900s, the oldest being 1905. Nothing beats walking out of a book store with 10-15 books that you paid maybe $20 for. Also Colleen McCollough's Rome series that includes 4 books are very good and entertaining. I am working on building a private library and currently have four bookshelves full. Most of my friends think I am crazy for buying the books, instead of going to the Public Library. But it is nice to have all your books right there for referencing and rereading.

Yeah, I have read all of his books including his guide to Portland, which I just sent to my brother who lives up there. It is a guide to all the strange and twisted places in Portland, and there are a lot.

I am a fan of Frank Herbert's Dune Books. They are some of the greatest science fiction books I think. THe new ones by his son are ok, but nothing compared to the orginals

The LOTR trilogy + The Hobbit are still the best books I've ever read.

Hm..some of the best reading i enjoyed about 2-3 years ago was the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. Really good if you love fantasy stuff

My primary interest are fantasy books. Not long ago, Robert Jordan's WoT was my fav serie.... until it draged on an on and on..... I'm also a big fan of Raymond Feist, though his last 2-3 books left me wanting (but his first 14 or so were fantastic!). Currently, Robin Hobb's Farseer and Liveship series captivated me, and I'm eagerly awating for the next GRR Martin's book in Song of Fire and Ice serie. Goodkind, Eddings, and Gemmel make also good read. Guy Gavriel Kay is probable the one who writes fantasy with the most emotions, and best characterisation.

Stephen King is great, but some of his books were... weird. I'm a big fan of the Dark Tower serie, and "It" is my favorite book of all.

In Science Fiction, I'm a fan of Orson Scott Card. If you never read Ender's game, you should, expecially since most of you are TFC players, and several aspects in this book reminded me of the time I was playing in TFC leagues. I would also go as far as saying that "Hyperion" by Dan Simmons was the best SF book ever written, yes, better than Dune. Back in the days, Asimov "foundation" was great.

Cool!!! fellow WOT readers. I feel your a pain. JD and I were talking about if Jordan would just come out with a book every half to one year, then the series would be good again. But waiting two years stinks. Also if you guys didn't know, he really went down hill when his wife became his editor about book 4 or 5. So he has gotten a lot worder. Book ten was a disappointment, it didn't move the plot hardly at all. Oh well there is supposedly only two books. The cool part is, with the series getting so big and his WOT world so in depth. Jordan could live the rest of his life just writing spin offs.
