You may have to take two of those part time hourly jobs for the time being. I know it sucks, but you have to do whatever it takes. In the mean time, you might want to look at finding some type of certification or training that might help you get a job later on. Try waiting tables or talk your way into bartending. Bartenders usually make good money. Also try valet service, the tips can be pretty good and this would only require that you work at night. Just ask yourself "What would Teddy do?" Good Luck!

I've had two part time jobs before. Most companies don't like that because they assume they are your #1 priority and the other should be #2. This town usually wants part time flex schedules. So I don't think that would work.

like pornstar said try restaurants, bars, etc.

normally (atleast here in Belgium) they need workpeople.

like here in Belgium: try finding some good employees (those who aren't afraid to make there hands dirty or to sweat a bit) i have a kitchenhelp with me but he's too lazy, doesn't like the horeca, and so on.
really fun to work with a guy like that. i'm already working with him for 9 months. a bit longer and i will strangle him!

sorry for the rant but i just had to trow it out.

LOL!!! I forgot about stripping! Thanks for the remind OS. Will Chris I thank in this time and situation that our economy is in, working is more important then not. The employer that says they want you to have a flexible schedule is due to the fact you are low man on the ladder and thus a newbie. Restaurants are usually this way, but if you get on with the right type of restaurant(like most of the main chains) then you can get good tips and even get a shot at training to tend bar. That way you just need the one job to get by. Then you need to get educated on where you want to go and then learn the skills. The market will come back up in the next 2-3 years and you need to be prepared for that. I know they say it hurts your marketability if you stay out of your field or don't maintain a "Real Job" over a period of time. But I think most employers well sympathize with you on this, since so many people are out of work. Well I don't know what to tell you, we have had this discussion several times all ready. The longer you stay on Unemployment the harder it is to get off. You become complacent and unwilling to leave the safety nest. So you have to just take a leep of faith and take any job, irregardless of the crap you will take day in and day out. It is all about being responsible for your debts and your actions and quite frankly its part of being a Man. I know its hard, I have been there. Its why I work at the hell hole that I work at and I am currently studying a new certification to move into a more stable section of my field. So just hang in then and keep at it.

Stay with it, Frag. Things will turn around.

Also, there's some good advice posted, so far. Not sure about the stripping part, though.

And dealing for a casino isn't that bad. But you will have to do the flex/on call thing until you prove yourself. But once you're in...

My uncle used to deal the $1000 and up tables at Ceaser's. Now he's retired and has a 50' cabin cruiser on Lake Mead. Too bad he has a daughter...can't sneak into his will.

I think thats the key in getting into any business, heart and desire will get you through the door but time and persistence moves you up the line.
It would be a cool world to start at the top and work down...

part time (20 hrs per week) gets me as far as unemployment. I have to have full time.

Yeah, but 2 part-time (20 hours a week) gets you equal to full-time.
