Probably your processor and your internet connection that helps.

I'm on cable, not too far away from the server, have tweaked my settings to hell and back, and I have a EXTREMELY nice video card which I've tweaked as well. With all of this, I get 10-15 fps in fire fights, while in TFC my lowest fps would be 60 and my norml would be 90-100.

i`m running an athlon 1900+ overcloaked to 1.71 have a gig of ddr ram and the ati 9700 pro with everything on(well i better check that one again) and during firefights with server loaded i get anywhere from high 70 fpsto 90fps all the time. on another note when i was on dsl and i had low ping like 50 / 60 but now on cable which on an average is way faster my ping is now 100 to 130 go figure must be a few too many hops on route. and i too have used that thread to tweak my settings.

No, my problem is that I:

1) Have an older processor
2) Need a new mobo
3) Only have 256 ram

My processor runs at around 1.2 or 1.3 ghz. As far as I can tell, if you don't have a processor somewhere near 2ghz and at least 256 ram, your fps in dod will be horrible. I can run TFC with my specs and reviece a good 60-100 fps always. In Dod, I recieve a horrible 10-30 fps.

Simply put, dod isn't going to run smoothly on low or lower-middle end machines.

Yeah, it is pretty choppy. It's especially annoying when I try and shoot someone, but I miss because I didn't see my aim repostion itself in time. Or when someone with an smg slaughters me because they can get off 5 shots before I can see their position.

I'm getting a new mobo and processor though. 8x AGP to help my video card out, and a 2.2 ghz or so athlon xp. When I can get the money, I'm also buying some more ram.

Dod's a geat game, even with bad fps. f you get used to it, it's not all that bad. I just have a hard time adjusting since I play TFC with high fps and then dod with some really bad fps

I am running a P4 1.8 with 768 MB of RAM. My Vid card has 64 MB RAM itself. It still runs very choppy for me. My machine is now older compared to what is now available but I can not see how it is not enough to play this game smoothly. There are times where it runs very smoothly and times where I can hardly take a step because it is so bad. I know the FPS problems I'm having is with my machine, I still don't understand why, but the choppiness has to be a bad node somewhere. The developers of this game have still got some serious issues they need to deal with to make it more playable on a level playing field.

The machine I play on has an Intel P3-800. It seems ok, most of the time (though I've turned most everything off). However, it does get choppy when there are 3 or more players on the screen for (whatever map is in the city. white buildings, etc. I don't play enough to know them all, yet).

Well my vid card is a GeForce2 400. If that is the problem then that is an easy fix. It does have 64 MB ram on it which is why I don't understand why I would be having issues. If I spend the money and that is not the problem I will be quite upset.

hhhhmmmm I have a P3-733 with 1.5GB or RAM and a SiS video card with 64MB or RAM. I rarily have lag issues except when my Comcast connection decides to go for a looped to loop. By the way how do you check to see what your fps are.

net_graph and your m/s ping is unreliable most the time. The scoreboard ping is more accurate. You can mess with your updaterate and make netgraph show a ping of 0 when obviously thats not the case. For choke/loss and fps is a good tool.
