Error Message

My grandson came over the other day and tried to play a couple games.

NHL2001 and he got error message

Abort Message
DX7 Error Code: Direct draw error code 90x80004005, 1638909800040050File \3rash\dx7\dx7dev.c,LINE 387

and

Nhl2001 has caused an error in DX7Z.DLL.

BF1942 and Morrowind - he got no mesasge but when the games go to load it just does a bunch of clicks and goes back to desktop.

My os is ME. Any ideas

Get rid of ME.

After you do that, you should be fine.

What version of DirectX are you running? The error looks like DX7, if you really have 7 update it to 9.0a.

I'm not sure about all the others, but for morrowind, make sure you have the latest in dx (needs 8.1 to play). If that isn't the problem, make sure you have the latest patch. I've also sometimes recieved similiar problems with different games when my memory gets low (low meaning my memory is ranging from 65%-45%)

Already have directx 8.1 but I upgraded to 9.0. Same result.

I've had and played these games for some time now so they are not new installations but the problem just started.

if you get errors from DX it mostly has something to do with your 3D card or your soundcards.

try installing the lastest drivers for both.

otherwise i have no idea for the moment.

my bet is on directx 9.a since i`ve installed it nothing but problems.and i have all the latest drivers.nothing but trouble and i`m running the 9700 pro vid and audigy platinium sound.........crao i tell u crap

It started to do it before I d/l'd directx 9 while I was on 8.1. I had done some adjustments to my graphics card GeForce Ti 4600 but I have since returned to previous settings. I also uninstalled BF1942 and re-installed it.

Another strange note BF1942 & Morrowind send me back to desktop, NHL2001 gives me error message and MOHAA loads and runs fine. All EA games except Morrowind

Um, a Geforce4 4600 isnt fully dx9 compliant...I dont know just what that means I just know that everyone wants ATI cards cause they are DX9 compliant.....
